Owner description: New Jersey's tallest lighthouse awaits you at Pacific and Rhode Island Avenues in Atlantic City (walking distance from Showboat Casino). Take an amazing journey into time and above it all as you ascend the 228 steps of the Absecon Lighthouse, one of the oldest lighthouses in the country. You'll see breathtaking views of the Atlantic City skyline and up top you'll come face-to-face with the original first-order Fresnel Lens, first lit in 1857.The lighthouse's recent multi-million dollar restoration also includes a stunning replica of the Lightkeeper's dwelling, an educational museum, charming gift shop, Fresnel Lens exhibit in the original Oil House and expansive grounds. The Absecon Lighthouse is on both the New Jersey and National Registries of Historic Places.

Good exercise getting up the 230 something steps. Son really enjoyed climbing and keeping count of steps.

Stumbled across the third highest lighthouse in the nation. Decided to pay the money to walk the nearly 300 stairs to the top. There are enough landings to allow just about anyone to make the climb. The tour guide at the top was tremendous and provided us with history of the lighthouse, the surrounding area and it made the climb worth every step.

The views are terrific, the docents knowledgable, and the facility has been carefully restored. Who doesn't love a lighthouse?! In the historical and cultural wasteland that is Atlantic City, this is a great place to visit with friends or family.

third tallest lighthouse in USA. It was a short visit. Nothing much in the area besides the light house and a small parking.

While in Atlantic City you should plan on a visit to this historic landmark. It is inexpensive and within walking distance of most Boardwalk hotels. They no longer use it for navigation purposes, but it has become a major tourist attraction over the years. I have visited many times and never tire of the walk up those winding stairs (well maybe a little these days). If you visit be sure and take your camera because some great pictures can be taken from the top.
