“Cozy-Friendly-Functional. A special place to stay.”
Reviewed August 18, 2012

It's a cozy and a romantic place to stay,it's so quirky. My husband and I stayed there during our honeymoon at the end of July. The Chelsea Pub & Inn was our favorite part of the trip. Customer service was great and made you feel at home. The beds are so comfortable! We absolutely loved the the decor also. The Pub is neat too,you get a complimentary drink card when you check in. I've seen people complaining about Dogs being allowed on here but we didn't hear any barking and the place was clean. It's really cool place to stay, I'm sure there's nothing like it.

Room Tip: Not giving away our favorite room! :) sorry.

We chose this location based on the fact that it was pet friendly. It was all downhill from there.

Check in time is 3:00, which apparently means 3:30-45 at this place. They weren't even full, either. The staff members were friendly, however.

Once we finally received our room key, our room did not meet our expectations. The lovely common areas are deceiving. The room had a very odd setup with a toilet by itself in one room (that smelled like mold), while the shower and sink area was located openly in the middle of the main room! Guess you'd better be comfortable enough to shower in front of your traveling companion(s). We did not even use the shower because it was so disgusting. The sheets and pillows were stained as well.

The cherry on top was the breakfast. We went to go get some food around 8:45-9:00, only to find the breakfast area deserted and locked. They did eventually start putting food out around 9:15-30, but by then we were too annoyed to care and just wanted to go home.

This place has enormous potential, but based on our experience, we will never return.

Crooked floors, stairs, and landings are one thing. I called three days in advance to make sure we would at least be getting a queen bed. The owner told me, "Yes, we got you the best room in the house." I imagine they say this to everyone. When we arrived, they gave us room 27, which was the top floor of the older side of the bed and breakfast. With our luggage, we climbed three precarious flights of stairs. The smell of cigarette smoke invaded our senses, ironic considering there was a "no smoking" sign in the hall. As we arrived to our room at the end of the hall, we thought, "Great, at least we have an end room." When we walked in, there were many unpleasant things about the room I would like to point out: 1) There was a dirty tissue on the console table underneath the television shelf. 2) There was 1 Ikea chair in the room with a white cushion, with a very, large questionable stain on the seat. Needless to say, we didn't sit in it or put things on it. 3) The bathroom was so small. My husband and I are both skinny and we couldn't both stand in the bathroom literally at the same time. There was also no counter space, save putting your toothbrush on top of the toilet. 4) The bathtub was black and had dirt engrained from years of visitors. Shower shoes did the trick, but you never felt "clean" after showering. 5) There was a sticky residue all over the side of the bathtub, like it was leftover from something that used to be adhered to the side. 6) The room was unbearably hot. After five minutes, we discovered the room actually had an AC unit, which the owners had covered up with curtains, and the unit was so small, it probably would take all day for that thing to run full speed and cool down the room. 7) During our stay, cigarette smoke began to drift into our room via the large gap underneath the door, which we had to plug up with a towel. With that being said, the room was somewhat larger, and it was bright. There were three colors used to pain the walls, sky blue, lime green, and an orangey-pink. It was definitely not our taste, as it looked like a kids room. I am just thankful neither of us got bedbug bites or ringworm from sleeping in that bed. The breakfast was a good selection, though with flies flying around and landing on the cheeses, the cleanliness was sometimes questionable. They were out of coffee and it was about 15 minutes before someone came and refilled it. My husband and I stay almost exclusively at bed and breakfasts, and this was a huge disappointment.

This is an old house - and yes the floors are crooked and you have to be a little careful when navigating the stairs and landings - but this is why we sometimes choose a place like this over a hotel chain. It's different. It's unique. It's a little qwuirky. The Blues Brothers are on the roof. You can't get that too many other places! This is not a cookie cutter hotel, so come in with an open mind and experience Atlantic City this way if you wish. It's right across the street from the Tropicana which couldn't be more convenient. It's just a block or so from the boardwalk and the beach. They were happy to give us beach chairs to take with us to the beach. We loved our room, #24 with the black and white striped wallpaper and black and white bedspread. I chose that room because of the king bed and bathtub and a more 'modern' feel to it. The room had everything we needed. We may have heard voices etc. in the hallways, but we didn't experience any problems with noise once we were in the room. We enjoyed having the bar right next door, adjacent to the property... good for margaritas (ask for sugar on the rim... we're trying to start a trend!!) - and good for late night munchies. Our room was clean, had everything we needed. If you want a linen change, it's best to let someone know you'll be leaving your room and ask that it's done. They don't have a huge staff, but they do the best with what they have. Jeannie, the inn keeper, is charming - love her french accent and enjoyed seeing her little14 year old italian greyhound, Abdullah. The breakfast of breads, cheeses, juice, etc. was enough to curb our hunger until lunchtime. They add a bit more (an egg dish as well as meats) on the weekends. After we were done with the casino, beach, or boardwalk scene, it was good to go 'back home' to the Chelsea (after stopping by the bar for two more margaritas.. with sugar not salt, of course!)

Room Tip: The rooms are all different, look at pictures on their web-site and select what you prefer.

My sister and I stayed here for two nights and we loved it! It's very well kept and the rooms are clean. We stayed in room 102 and it was plenty of space for the two of us (two king size beds). It was a little hard trying to maneuver shaving in the very small shower but that's really my only complaint! The breakfast was very good and had a lot of variety. They have several outside gardens where you can eat your breakfast or just lounge in the afternoon. The innkeeper is so sweet and very flexible and will do everything she can to make your stay enjoyable. I was afraid the room might be loud with a 24-hour pub downstairs but the only thing we heard were our neighbors coming home at 4am. Room 102 is not affected by any pub noise. We didn't hear any barking dogs either. We would definitely come back here and I recommend it!

Room Tip: Room 102 is large enough for two people or two couples.

We stayed there for 1 night the next day after our wedding. It was perfect. The building is antique but in a very good condition. The squicky wooden floor only adds to its charm. At our arrival we were greeted by a very nice French lady. She showed us to our room where we found a bottle of complementary shampane from Coppola winery! The room was in Colonial style, very cosy and clean. We were also pleased with breakfast which we had on a terrace. The place is also conveniently located across the street from Tropicana. Overall, we it was a great experience for a very reasonable price of $75 per night.

I stayed at The Chelsea Pub and Inn for a couple of nights at the end of the June and I have nothing but good things to say about the place and the staff. The room was just right for me (size, decoration, and even though the weather was hot the air conditioning did the job), the staff was very helpful and all in all I liked the atmosphere of the place. And the breakfast was great. Plus the location was perfect for me. I would definitely stay here again.
