We arrived on Santa Marta on 4/1and stayed at this hotel for 4 night for a little under $200 bucks a night. We are a family of 5 and we fit perfectly in the 2 bedroom suite. One bedroom had a full or queen size bed while the second bedroom had 3 twin size beds. The kids were happy to not have to share a full size bed. the hotel is a bit old looking abd the comforter on my bed had a few holes but the place itself is impeccable, the cleaning staff does an amazing job. This is a family owned establishment which gives it a great feel. The owners and their children are kind and friendly.
The beach that is about a half block away is OK, wasn't inviting for soemone like me that's use to turquoise waters, however take a 10 min. boat ride and Playa Blanca is amazing as well as Playa Cristal in Tayrona Park which is about an hour away. Don't even pay for snorkeling st these two beaches just take your own gear and you'll see plenty as you swim a few feet away from the shore.

We went to Rodadero during the first part of Carnaval activities to escape some of the craziness of Barranquilla. We just wanted to chill out and spend time together. We looked at other options such as hotels and apartments/flats that were available and they were either too expensive or the place was not appealing in one way or another. But I found Hotel Betoma reviews here on trip advisor and decided to give it a shot. The hotel was very clean. The rooms spacious and very well decorated. There was a big balcony with a nice ocean view. The hotel is located 1/2 block from the beach which was perfect. There is a lot of noise at any hotels in those areas, but by being 1/2 block away from the beach it was less than when we stayed at Hotel La Sierra for instance. The service was great. There was no pool or gym. And I was unable to make reservations online or even find a working phone number. But all in all, I thought it was an excellent bargain at $30.50 per night for a large room with fridge, queen size bed, AC.

Hotel Betoma is your best bet (and most bang for your buck) in El Rodadero. The front desk staff is very friendly and always willing to offer a discount. The rooms are simple but very well maintained. And the hotel is always immaculate, especially housekeeping in the individual rooms. The only thing I would recommend is getting a room that does not face Calle 8 because all the street noise can be really loud.

We were trying a budget option in Santa Marta and TripAdvisor helped us to choose a good option. Actually, most of budget hotels in Santa Marta do not have website and do not offer e-reservation. But, with Betoma we have the help of our mate of TripAdvisor "smc20nt" whom stayed there and provided us the e-mail of Elisa Enciso, that made us our reservation through internet. We did not have to pay a penny in advance and they accept credit cards there. By the pictures we have seen here, we thought it would be a very very simple hotel. But we were surprised by the cleanliness and comfort they offer. Well, it is a simple room, with an extravagant colors deco (very common in Colombia) but with air conditioning (as we had 43º Celsius) frigobar, TV, Free Internet Access. It is nice, but not that lost pearl. Actually it is an excellent option by its location and reasonable price. Nearby you can walk through all El Rodadero neighborhood. Good restaurants and lots of foods being sold at the beach in the night. Also in the night you can enjoy music and dances on the beach. From there it is easy and cheap to take a bus to the city center and to Quinta de San Pedro Alejandrino (the site where Simon Bolivar has died). Near the hotel you can find travel agencies that offer daytrips to Parque Tayrona which has one of the most beautiful beaches in South America (Playa Crystal). Santa Marta is a nice city to spend about 3-4 days. Unless you are a hiking enthusiast (they have other trips which includes hiking) you can see everything in 3 days. We did not like Playa Blanca, one of the most sold daytrips in El Rodadero. Their Aquarium does not worth the visit. Enjoy your stay. By the way, Hotel Betoma e-mail is [--].

This hotel recently remodeled all their rooms. There is hot water,AC,cable tv and a ocean view balcony in each room. Some room are suites with kitckens. During low season you can get a deal. I paid $40US for a room. There was also free internet and USA/CANADA calls in the lobby. The beach gets lively from sunset on...lots of local music, food stalls,singing,dancing..real carribbean /colombian feel!!!

I previously stayed in Hotel Tamaca, also in Rodadero, and paid over twice as much for about the same room. The only real difference was that Hotel Betoma is a simple no frills hotel without the restaurant, swimming pool, beachfront and bar. But all of those things are right outside the doorstep of Betoma so it really doesn't matter.

Room was large, clean, with AC, cable TV, nice shower and a big fridge. Only complaints are that there is no safe and the room door does not close easily. Sometimes I thought I had close it, but it stayed open. Need to be careful about that and store your valuables in the hotel's lockbox.

Service was friendly and excellent. Much better than Tamaca in fact.

Wi-FI is in lobby only, but that was fine for me.

All in all, I would definitely recommend. In fact, I am staying there again next month.

Stayed in Santa Marta 2 nights, first night in a hotel by the beach for 90 dollars it just wasn't worth it. Next night found hotel Betoma 1/2 block away from the beach for 1/2 the price "low seeason". Rooms and bathrooms ample and very clean with goot a/c and fridge, bring your own water. very friendly service, highly recommend this place. Whatever you save in hotel expenses you can make use of that money for a whole day of nature adventure at parque Tayrona which is a must do.
