I was there on bussiness. They are updating the place but it looks in bad shape. My room had cracks on the ceiling and not working curtains.

The person at the front desk didn´t allow us to do late checkout and we have been there many times and it was not acknowledged. We won´t come back.

The beach is peaceful.

We stayed here for 3 nights recently and enjoyed the chance to relax. The grounds are nice with lovely swimming pools. The hotel is located right on the beach which has plenty of lounges and shade. Breakfast was included in our room rate and it was a good buffet breakfast with plenty of fruit and hot dishes. The hotel offers various activities such as aerobics, pilates and children's activities. The hotel is quite busy on the weekends but a lot quieter during the week. There is not much close by but one can take a taxi to Rodadero which is only 5 - 10 minutes away and is a very busy, lively place with plenty of restaurants.

We loved this hotel! It is perfect if you want to just relax. The pools are great, and one has a swim up bar! They have one for kids too, which is great if you are traveling with little ones. If we stayed there again, I would request one of the cabanas that has a hammock where you can see the beach and lay on the hammock. Just know that most of these rooms are also in the line of foot traffic. The beach isn't good for swimming since the water is polluted, if you want to go in clear beautiful waterI would recommend going to Playa Blanca or Tayrona. The breakfast is great here! They have a huge selection of fresh fruits, cheeses, breads, and even a waffle bar! Also, the view from breakfast is great.

Just 5 minutes south of Rodadero we stayed in this nice small resort. Don´t expect a 5 star and a brand new resort, but we definitely recommend this hotel, both for couples and families. Very relaxed, cosy and well maintained, away from the hustle and bustle of Rodadero and Santa Marta, we enjoyed our stay here.

Positive:
Friendly staff
Great service
Great breakfast buffét
Really nice settings with cottages and pools
2 big pools, jacuzzi and kids pool.
Big bar with TV sets close to the pool
Activities, dance classes, beach volleyball etc
Excellent location right on the beach
Few beach vendors

Negative
Ugly entrance due to construction/development area (no disturbing sounds though)
Need car or take a taxi if you want to go to Rodadero or Santa Marta
Bring mosquito repellant

In general.
Don´t expect white sand and crystal clear waters anywhere apart from Parque Tayrona. Rodadero and Santa Marta is quite worn down, lots of comercial activity and not so clean beaches.

A great thing to do- but the trek is definitely an important part of the experience. I did it in 5 days and did spend a lot of time on camp, but felt it ws a good pace. Go with friends and make new ones along the way. Bring plenty of mosquito repellent!!! I went with expoturs and they were good. It was pricey at $600.000 Colombian pesos, but this seems to be the standard price for all tours. Lots of spectacular views, great pools to swim in and beautiful nature- plants, birds and butterflies!

I recently went and had a great time. I have photos and a post on my blog- http://1yearinsoledad.wordpress.com/2013/01/23/ciudad-perdida-the-lost-city/

Room Tip: The beds are way better than the hammocks!!!

This hotel is a beach resort on the Caribbean but close to the Tayrona Nationa Park which we toured. We stayed in a four unit building next to the beach and also beside a large outdoor pool, both of which we enjoyed. The breakfast area was pleasant, especially eating outdoors. The variety of food, including individually prepared egg choices, was very good. The business center offered free internet service 24 hours a day. To drive in to Santa Marta, you will need a car or other transportation.

Room Tip: I would request one of the smaller units rather than the hotel tower. We liked being at the beach.
