I stayed there with my husband and my little girl, and I was very happy with our room, with the food (especially breakfast), and with the general ambiance. Not all the employees were helpful, or nice, but most of them were, and they handled any of my concerns in a timely manner.
In general, I was satisfied with the place, although they should think about building another pool, since the one they have is too small. Maybe they already did since I stayed there a couple of years ago.

Room Tip: If you don't like your room, ask for a change. I did, and they gave me one significantly better...

I recently stayed in this place for a medical school reunion . From May 24 to May 26/2012 . I have lots of expectations because I stayed at the Decameron Baru before in Cartagena . I was dissapointed .
PROs:The location is good close to the airport and the view is nice .The beach is nice and would be a waste to stay in the pool .Food at the restaurants is significantly better than the main buffet .. The entertainment at night is good .Dont miss it
CONS:The rooms in the Villas even though they are big they need to be renovated.(I stayed in Villa 17 ) .Request a room in the new building ,they are significantly better . The AC does not always work . Bathroom was small and no shampoo or conditioner are given. They need to get new towels They look old and not white anymore.
Overall the location is good but there is a lot of room for improvement if they want to advertise themselves as a 4 start resort .As a Hotel is average .Will explore other choices next time

Room Tip: Choose a room in the main building . It is new and have better view .

This Hotel is convenient located 10 minutes from airport the hotel is a medium sprawling resort encompassing 2 swimming pools, four restaurants and average manicured grounds. Located on an average beach, the sea is very warm and quite calm..so good for kids...it does not however have that "Turquoise" look that you may expect . The staff were very helpful. The resturants and all you can eat diners were average to say the least the drinks were horrible since it looks all alcoholic drinks are the same, nothing special.... The villa room was large and clean with a fantastic view of th ocean, the weather was hot, 35c plus, however it was cloudy sometimes. All in all not a bad place for the price, however I would not come back to the resort unless i can get a really good price. What i didn't like of the resort is you have to be very clear when reserving your dinner restaurant table since you will have to share it with other hotel guests.

Room Tip: If you are a couple and wants privacy tell them you want a separate table NOT sharing it with other...

This place is pretty darn good - all inclusive - we had an apartment on the ocean all inclusive for like 140 USD per night for 2 people. It's not fancy - and doesn't cater to a high end crowd like the Decameron Baru Island - but it's perfectly fine for us. The food isn't the best - but it's OK but our I bedroom apartment was overlooking the ocean in the front of the complex. Food average, service above average, value above average, time with wife - un-measurable (grin).

Good beach-front location and food is OK - never got ill from eating here unlike their sister hotel in El Salvador! Just a short taxi ride from Santa Marta town and at the foot of the hills where the lost city is - seems there are helicopter day trips available weather permitting. Beach is fine, unlike what some of the US reviewers say - OK, it's not sterile and raked each morning but it's a real beach! Accommodation (rooms) leave a little to be desired in terms of cleanliness, but this is Colombia, not Japan! Advise stick to the buffet and not the a la carte places for dinner.

Room Tip: Get as close to the beach as possible

Decameron hotels have a good reputation but this location is a big disappointment. The pool is small considering the size of the resort. The food is simply ok. I had to have my room changed due to filthy linens and the shower was backed up. Once I was moved I had to deal with bugs invading the living space. They did fumigate and added a door protector so insects would not come in under the door. It did not work. How could housekeeping ignore such a problem. Imagine, white floor filled w/black bugs. The bright side was a gentleman Luis who worked in one of the restaruants who was extremely courteous. The grounds are less than desirable. I ended up leaving every morning after breakfast and taking the 10 minute bus ride to "Zuana" hotel and spending my day there. Now the Zuana is a wonderful place to stay in Santa Marta. Lastly the beach is terrible. It's dirty and the water is not clear whatsoever. I do not recommend this hotel for anyone interested in a clean and peaceful vacation.

There are a lot of good things to say about this hotel. It had nice atmosphere, good restaurants and also a great beach and pool. They also had good entertainment at night. The water at the beach was very warm though but that is the Gulf of Mexico in the summer. The hotel is fairly secure so there are no worries at night. The room we ended up having had two bedrooms. It was not the most modern room however it was comfortable and had a great view from the balcony.
