“the most wonderful and relaxing retreat”

I wish I could spend two weeks at this place. It was spotless, very pretty, very quiet (okay, the road is a little noisy, but won't ruin your time there), very scenic, the folks who own it are incredibly nice, the cabins are fantastic (with all these natural stones and materials incorporated in), the lack of internet (ok, you can use it if you HAVE to) was such a welcome break, and all in all, I would recommend it. I travelled here alone for a weekend break from a worktrip to Barranquilla, and loved it. if it were on the beach, I would quit my day job and beg them to hire me. I'll be bringing my parents back here in January.

Room Tip: All rooms are lovely - the private ones are further from the road, and the owners very kindly gave m...

Yuluka is really a great place to stay, We stayed only one night but everything was prefect. The rooms are huge ( with a massive 2x2m matress!!) and everything is made of rocks. The water comes by the river, and all around you is so calm and full of nature - the atmosphere is really amazing. Nice pool and really tasty food at the restaurant. The owners makes you feel welcome all the time. Can't wait to be back at Yuluka! Thank you for everything! :)

I only had one night at Yuluka, but I really liked the hostel and the staff working there. At the time of my visit it was only two guests staying there, and I had the dorm all for myself ;-) The dorm is big, there's lockers for each guest and a bathroom - other than that a big terrace, where you can get breakfast and meals, and a few cabanas further up. The staff is very helpful, I could use the internet for free, however, the connection wasn't that good, so be prepared for a bad signal if you use you're own wifi. The only downside (I can only speak for the dorm) is the big road, which passes by and is frequented by buses and trucks all day, so it might get noisy. But means also, that the hostel is reachable very well from Santa Marta, as busses drop you off directly in front of the gate.

Concluding - a very beautiful spot with very helpful staff and a great start-off for Tayrona. Definitely recommend Yuluka!

We stayed three nights. The place and the concept are cool, but the result is not exactly what we expected. The main road is very near and you listen the trucks and cars from the room, when you supposed to listen just nature. Hammocks and rooms are nice but you don't have to expect luxury...you are at jungle! We liked the outdoor shower.you can take shower while you enjoy the views. Food is just Ok and they have just few of the thinks from menu (probably because was low season). Juices are incredible. Big problem during our stay: power supply!! The rooms have mosquito nets and are cleaned everyday.Staff is nice and friendly

First of all I would like to start with the positive things : I have to say that this is really a nice place. A beautyiful exotic garden, nice and big rooms if you book one of the private rooms. A valuable price for room and breakfast. ( Approx 20Eur per person) The food is good and they make a really good Ceviche. We left one daz earlier than planned as the weather was not good. He did not charge us for the night we left earlier which was really kind! The owner and his wife are nice and will help you to arrange what you like. Now the rather negative points : I contacted the owner before we arrvived as I had read the rather negative commnts about the busy and loud road. He said it would be quite , but it is definitely not. He should at least be so honest to tell his guests that there is a really busy road with many trucks in front of the hotel. The point is that this road is in fron of every hotel outside of the park, so if you stay outside of the park you will always have this noise. Thats the way it is and this is the reason why the price is so affordable! Also, it would have been nice if he would clean the pool a bit more often. We arranged a taxi to the airport and the owners wife said that the cos

We stayed at Ecohostal Uluka from the 13th December to the 17th December 2012.

We took this place as the webpage was in a perfect english and sounded like a serious place to stay so we had hoped for some more information in english.

We really looked forward to stay in this place and we were met with the owner who is an enthusiastic businessman, sadly he prioritizes the business part a bit too much, this place is overpriced, the food is too expensive in regards to normal Colombian prices and you are far away from Santa Marta so you do not have other options.

Please note, this Ecohostel lies right next to the main road, you will hear truck and busses all through the night.

A few thing did not live up to our expectations:
First the toilet did not have a seat, it came the day after though but still.
Secondly there was no mosquito net, this came on the last night we slept there.
The Water was Icy cold and even though you have a big nice tub, there is no warm water to pour into the tub?
One of the Towels was dirty with some mashed fruit and this was swarming with insects.
The restaurant promised good food this food was average nothing more.

Many of the activities that are shown on the homepage are not available when you get there.

But the Jugos are great :)
And we would like to point out that the time spent in the hammocks were quite nice.

Room Tip: The one with the mountain view furthest away from the road.

Whilst the location is advertised as a tranquil place to stay it is situated right on a busy road frequented with heavy trucks and tourist buses. I informed them about my room leaking during a torrential downpour (luckily not on the beds) but they didn't bother to clean it up till the next day and the water was over most of the floor. I had to use a spare towel and by the morning it had dried up. Restaurant is slow and the food very underwhelming and expensive for what it is. No map for Tayrona National Park (the park doesn't have one either) and staff did not know nor offered to find out about frequency of buses to Cartagena from Santa Marta. On arrival pool was overflowing with young children and didn't look completely clean.
