“Beautiful Island, Great Hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 8, 2012

Beautiful island, great hotel, superb location-what more could we ask? Add to this, wonderful staff and you have it all. I travelled to San Andres with my daughter who lives/works in Bogota. We had a wonderful stay in what we felt was the best hotel on San Andres. We visited most of the other Decameron hotels/restaurants taking advantage of the opportunity to dine elsewhere at no additional cost-(not because of any dissatisfaction with the food in the Marazul- it was wonderful) but although we liked others(Delfines and Aquarium in particular) we felt the location of the Marazul was second to none-private beach location, wonderful views and beautiful grounds,, which others did not have. Staff were superb, particulary porters Raymundo and Leodan (very helpful), Ivebeth in the Cocoblue for her friendliness and cocktails, and Gary for his boat trips. We had a great week.I am sure my daughter will be back and although it's quite a trip from the UK, I'd certainly love to return. And, contrary to some comments, we had no problem with taxi drivers-we found them to be helpful and friendly-and most certainly not aggressive.

Room Tip: Ask for room overllooking or in pool area.

What a wonderful island and the Decameron Marzul made it truly outstanding! Pristine grounds and rooms (as luck would have it we were offered the Presidential Suite at the end facing out over the beach and crystal blue water). The food was very good, always fresh, and the open air bar on the dock really was open 24 hours a day! With our Marzul identification arm bands we were able to travel to the other 5 resorts down the beach to dine or dance in any of the clubs. Will return to both San Andres' Decameron Marzul and Colombia.

Back in January 2012 we had our first experience in an all-inclusive resort! We booked at the Marazul in San Andres............beautiful resort in a lovely lush tropical setting........The food is absolutely amazing!!! Wide variety of delicious choices everyday! The fruits and vegetables in the salad bar are in abundance........everything is washed in purified water so no worries there! Everything is extremely sanitary! The dessert, wow! The people are the friendliest and absolutely loving............What a great experience! Thank you to Marly the lovely bar lady as well as Eveth and Yayson..... What beautiful people....
If you are expecting a beautiful beach.....not so much... BUT you can take a 15 minute boat ride everyday...thank you Gary and Mario across to Acuario and snorkel.......Amazing!!! And you can take a 20 minute walk to Rocky Cay and the beach is beautiful there too... The rooms are spacious and very clean, not ultra modern but hey it's the tropics! What a beautiful island and beautiful people!
Hola and gracias!!!

Room Tip: Ask for a room on third floor, overlooking the ocean........

We have been everywhere and San Andres is special. It is really small and very beautiful. People are friendly but there can be a bit of a language barrier at times. We have been 3 times and will be going back someday. Decameron Maruzul is the best resort on the island in our opinion. Nice and clean, and good food. Shopping downtown is excellent. Rent a golf cart and tour the island, it is worth every cent. Take the boat shuttle to the keys out from the resort and have lunch there, Awesome!!
The stingray tour was fantastic too.
Cant wait to go back.
Too bad there is still no flight out of Toronto yet, only Montreal. Hey Air Transat, put the Toronto flight back on already, or give it up to another carrier that has better service !!!!!

Room Tip: There really isn't a bad room at this resort. Just go and enjoy!!

Just back from a memorable one week vacation in San Andrès, Colombia. I stayed at Decameron Marazul from March 5th to March 12th, 2012.

Check-in was fast and very well organized and we were told that the management had made us a reservation at one of the “A la carte” restaurant for the next day … nice.

As you exit the lobby a superb view of the resort’s grounds simply overwhelms you. Tall coconut trees abound and the grounds are well groomed and clean.

This was my first time in San Andrès so I don’t know if this is abnormal or not but during the week I did see any mosquitoes, any flies or insects !! On the other hand, there are lots of birds … maybe the birds eat all the insects !!!

The room was above your average 4 star resort. My bathroom had a shower stall and no bathtub. One suggestion, bring your own shower gel. I found that the soap they supplied left an unwanted film on my skin !! The bed was very hard but I’ll take hard over soft any day !!! Room was very clean and the maid does an excellent job.

The floor in the room is made of ceramic looking like marble and it is very slippery when wet !!

At arrival, two large bottles of water were supplied and the maid refurbished if any was used daily. My room was on the second floor and my balcony had an ocean view thru the trees.

One thing I liked. In order to save our planet, you have the choice not to replace your bed sheets every day by placing the ¨Save our planet¨ sign on the bed.

Decameron Marazul has three restaurants: one buffet and two “A la carte” where food quality ranges from very good to simply excellent …. If you like fish, do not miss the grilled bass at Caravelle restaurant …it is only surpassed by the excellent service.

Food quality and service at the buffet restaurant can make most of other Caribbean resorts buffet restaurants green with envy.

You can even make reservations for diner at one of the other Decameron resorts on the island. I have only tried the Asian restaurant at Decameron San Luis and it was great.

The man made beach is small and sometimes very crowded and it is cleaned every morning.

The main reason for traveling to San Andrès was scuba diving, and it was excellent. We dove with Sea Garden Centro de Buceo located at the resort. Everything from taking our gear on board to switching tank between dives and rinsing off our gear after the day was taken care of for our diving enjoyment. They even supply water and cookies after each dive !!! And not expensive at all !!!

Johan our dive master rapidly acknowledged that our group liked to dive slowly and enjoy every minute of these magnificent reefs, and not simply go from point A to point B as I so often experienced.

Thanks Johan, this was a great week of diving. I’ll dive with you any day !!

Thanks Jaime, great staff !!

At the end of an amazing week, I would have liked to stay another week … Can’t wait to go back in a near future !!!

3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 28, 2012

Just was there on a 4 night stay, Feb. 13-2012.Won't be going back..Advertisment about the resort not all true..It says: Guests are invited to use facilities in any of the other four Decameron resorts in San Andres and complimentary transportation is provided between the resorts. Not the case: we had to take and pay for a cab, $8 each way to take us into town where the other resorts were.. It also advertised: The all-inclusive rate include breakfast and lunch buffets, a la carte dinners, daily snacks, unlimited domestic and international alcoholic beverages, non-alcoholic beverages, and cigarettes, beach towels, daily activities program, non-motorized water sports, introductory scuba diving clinic, daily discotheque, and all taxes and gratuities.Guest rooms feature A/C, satellite TVs, telephones, mini-refrigerators, and in-room safes.
Not so:.... cigarettes not included, we couldn't even smoke unless we were outside the restaurants which were all outdoors anyways, and no smoking rooms...Although mini fridge in the room, it is not stocked with at least beer and pop..We only had water bottles left in the room cause their water was not drinkable...Grounds were beautiful, but rooms were outdated..Bathroom is very very small...Discotheque not operating...and we didn't have 24 hour service..Everything shut down at 8:00pm..Couldn't get a coffee past that time..The main lobby coffee shop closed at 8:00pm as well..Didn't offer service either...The only place opened was the bar on the pier, which was very very windy, and a bit cool...Entertainment didn't start till 10:00 pm, but by then we were in bed cause it was boring after 8:00pm.. Even the downtown area shuts down early..Had to move from our 1st room as the smell was terrible.. We had to wait a couple of days to get another room, but at least that one didn't stink..Although safety deposit box in the room ,there was a daily fee to use it...When I go to an all inclusive, I expect an all inclusive, especially if they advertise whats included, then its not...Paid a lot of money to take this vacation, and was very disappointed with the little surprises that arose..Must say that the food was very good, and the drinks were ok, but not that great..Tried to book some restaurants for dinner, but they kept telling us they were full..When we walked by the restaurants, they were not full to capacity..Transportation to and from the airport went seamless..All in all I would not return to the Decameron Hotels or San Andres...For a tourist area, can't believe the whole town shuts down from 1:00pm to 3;00pm and at 8:00 pm... Oh and the beds were hard as a rock...
Disappointed traveller from Ontario Canada..

I was here on 2005 but as I am returning to the island soon I thought that it could be a good time to write a review of the Marazul. We stayed here for around 10 days.

We choose Marazul over the other Decameron hotels because we liked to try something new having stayed on the Aquarium before. The choice could not have been a worst one.

Our first day we had a lot of problems with bugs in the room. There were a lot of ants and strange small creepy things that were crawling everywhere. In addition to this the toilet was not having problems too. I complained to the administration and we were changed to a new room but the process took almost 2 hours waiting time. Our first day was totally lost with all these things.

The new room was ok but the last day of our stay we found big cockroaches crawling under the bed. It was really nasty!

The disappointment was big when we saw the so called "beach". It is impossible that that thing can be called a beach. They have done a lot of photoshop work in the brochure pictures. If I had known that the beach was like that I had never booked here. There is a lot of algae everywhere, impossible to swim there.

The big problem of the hotel is that it was build beside a "manglar", it is placed lmost in the middle of the jungle, that is why there is a lot of creepy bugs here and that is the explanation for the algae too.

The pool is ok and the diving shop was attended by very professional people. We took our diving certification with them and can recommend Jaime and the rest of the crew there. They saved our trip that time.

The beach bar was ok and the cocktails were also ok. The food is not the best, much better in the Aquarium.

All in all I can just say that I don't recommend this hotel for the price it has. Choose the Aquarium if you like to stay in Decameron, or try one of the others. I have only been in this one and the Aquarium.

Room Tip: Avoid the ones close to the jungle if you are not an bug lover.
