So I stayed at this hotel last night and have to warn everyone to stay away. We paid extra for an ocean view room. When we got to our room there was no ocean in site!!! When we called the front desk to ask them if they had made a mistake, the staff became standoffish. They yelled at us and said we needed to put on some glasses as our room was an ocean view room. The only way you could see the ocean from room 430 was by climbing out the window, getting on the ledge, and sticking your head way out there. We got a new room but it wasnt any better. We stay at a hotel every NYE and we always look for hotels with room service. Well their website said room service and there is none!!! No coffee maker, no pen or paper, no fridge... They give you two tiny pills for a king bed which is as hard as a rock and the room is freezing even at 75 degrees. The decor looks cool on line but in person its just creepy and cheap. A tile in the bathroom was coming loose and the shower is a death trap. I really would not stay here ever again in my life.

Room Tip: I changed rooms from room 430 to room 706 and neither room was nice.

Stayed at the Berkeley for a convention. Room was adequate, public facilities were so/so, specially the meeting rooms, HVAC needs to be upgraded. Housekeeping staff was very kind, but hard to find at times.

The hotel is going through another transition period, new owners are taking over. Let's hope they can correct some of the issues addressed by customers.

As others have remarked, the renovations done to this property are basically like lipstick on a pig, and cheap, lurid lipstick at that. My room was hastily updated, which made it feel sloppy and cheap. The caulking in the bathroom was a mess, some of it literally smeared across the floor. There were numerous pencil marks on the paneling where the carpenter placed measurements. Nobody ever bothered to clean these off. There were also already stains on the bathroom walls and on the cheap wallpaper in the room itself. The room smelled slightly musty, the woodwork had numerous scuffs, the desk had some sort of large stain, and the phone and the iPod docking station didn't work properly. Beyond these issues, I paid for parking, and there wasn't a single space available in the small lot behind the hotel because there was a wedding reception at the hotel that night. The wedding guests were loud, highly obnoxious and intoxicated, and all over the lobby and halls. I had to call the front desk TWICE at 3am to complain about incredibly drunk people shouting in the hallway. And I had to shout into the phone because my phone did work properly and the front desk clerk couldn't hear me well. Foods options are limited and available only when restaurant is open. So if you want a late-night bite, which I did, or want weekend breakfast at 10:15 am, which I did, you're out of luck. Also, this is one of the only hotels I've ever stayed in that didn't have a mini fridge, coffee maker, or information on local attractions in the room. There wasn't even so much as a pen and paper. It was cheap and weird, and I hated it. After a dreadful night's sleep, I couldn't wait to get out of there. Fortunately, the stay ended on a far more positive note as I enjoyed a morning walk on the beach and a nice breakfast at a cute place in downtown Asbury Park. I would NEVER stay in this hotel again and would actively discourage anyone else who expressed an interest in doing so.

We stayed there for a wedding and the hotel staff was friendly and helpful. The room's decor was a bit odd (striped carpeting, polka dotted bench at the foot of the bed) but very clean and the bed was comfy. The wedding itself was at the hotel and it was beautiful - the food was very good and the staff went above and beyond to make everyone happy. I did request a roll away bed when we first checked in and when it still hadn't arrived by midnight had to go down again (they did send one up within a few minutes).
The hotel is right across the street from the boardwalk and two or three blocks from the famous Stony Pony and the Wonderbar.

If you enjoy the feeling of being shoved in a toliet and treated like crap than The Berkley Hotel is perfect for you... The hotel staff needs to take a course on the meaning of "Customer Service," particularly a gentleman by the name Demetrius. Let me just list out a few of the problems:
1. No hot water in the morning to take a shower
2. Being cursed at by Hotel Staff
3. People in the hallway until 4:00am in the morning partying
4. Key cards to the Doors not working at all and having to go back over 3 times to exchange for different ones
5. Rooms not even being ready until past 6:00pm when check in states 3:00pm

I could go on... This place needs a serious reality check on the proper way to run a business

Last minute decision to stay over in Asbury Park while visiting Sandy Hook. We would have been better off driving home.

The hotel is old and they've tried hard to jazz it up with modern decor, etc. but it's poorly done. Peeling wallpaper, crappy "comforters" (really, just 2 sheets sandwiched with cotton balls!), hair dryer that doesn't work (no air, just the sound of scraping metal) and a vague heating/air conditioning system. Oh, and the door to our room looked like it might just fall off its' hinges and had a several inch gap at the bottom so when someone was outside yakking it up in the hall it sounded like they were in the middle of our room!

I could have reasonably dealt with some of the other issues but to not tell your customers that you have not yet switched over to heat when it's raining and 55 degrees outside (and an overnight low in the 40s) is unconscionable. Everyone knew the cold front was coming but their maintenance couldn't be bothered. We had to ask for 3 blankets for the bed otherwise, we would have totally frozen to death. When we woke up in the morning the room temperature was 59 degrees. To pay even $109 (apparently a good rate in Asbury Park) was overpriced.

Here's another tip for the hotel staff: When you have big wedding parties, PLEASE book those bozos in a cluster of rooms! Confine them to a floor. When you spread them out all over the hotel you spread the misery these drunken idiots cause with their raucous, late, late night behavior. Seriously, you don't know that 20-somethings at a Jersey shore wedding are loud, obnoxious and drunk?

I would rather drive the 1 1/2 hours back to my house in the middle of the night than stay here again.

Room Tip: Stay somewhere else!

Old hotel that has been brought into the modern era with a delightful renovation.

Its the perfect spot for a weekend away.

I would avoid however the rooms set back from the beach front, which have a side beach view but which are above the noisy, industrial-size building air conditioning units.

Otherwise, great place!

Room Tip: Avoid rooms above the noisy, industrial-size building air conditioning units.
