Was there this past weekend with family. Was kind of nervous after seeing reviews. But what I found were recently renovated rooms and bathrooms. Though the furniture is old. And room safe did not work. Overall room was spotless. Staff were extremely helpful and the location was great. Great hotel by the ocean.

Rude staff, no wi-fi as promised (and they charge for it when it's working, come on!!, in 2012?). Noisy, noisy, noisy, did I say noisy. Won't stay hear again.

Room Tip: Don't stay.

Not impressive. Driving up there is no sign on building. Old brick bldg with no charm. Exterior needs woodwork, paint, brick cleaned. Landscaping shows signs of recent upgrading. Parking was available in 2 owned, graveled, lots that were packed, at $10 per 24 hrs, street parking at $1 per hour. Bellman, maintenance and front desk employees very friendly/helpful. Interior looked to have had recent remodel, clean (new?) carpet/walls. Room was extremely small, bath was tight, no luggage stand, a/c would not cool room despite 50 degree temps outside, window opened, no screen, safe had no key (was locked shut), king bed was comfortable. On fifth floor we were just above noisy a/c units on roof at rear of "X" shaped bldg. If you want to be on the beach in North Jersey this will put you there, reasonably, but there must be classier places.

First time staying here, was recomended by a friend. Had an ocean view room on a high floor, woke up to the sound of the waves crashing. It's in a perfect location, right across the street from the beach and boardwalk, full of resturants and shops. The room was very clean and bed very comfortable. Staff was nice and informative about the area. (a lot of history in this hotel and Asbury Park) Had coffee in the AM in the lobby and walked to the boardwalk for lunch and dinner. The resturant in the hotel is closed on mondays. My overall experience was good and i would recommend this hotel to anyone that enjoys relaxation.

I booked a double room online for $99 a night, but when I got there with 3 people they charged us an extra $20 for the third person. They also charged $10 a day for parking. No fridge, no microwave, no coffee in the morning, even if you ask for it! Staff is rude (except for the gentleman working yesterday). Hotel isn't even on the beach - when we first got there they put us in a room overlooking a roof and a wall - when I complained they reluctantly moved me even though the hotel was almost empty due to it being way before season.

THIS HOTEL SUCKS AND THE STAFF, FOR THE MOST PART, ARE USELESS!!! DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY!

Room Tip: Toilets don't flush, sinks don't drain, make sure you request an ocean view and then make th...

Donna_Albany_NY,

I apologize for your most recent experience here at the Berkeley. This is in no way how we normally conduct business. I would like to speak with you about this in detail so I can make it right and ensure it does not happen in the future.

The hotel was renovated and with great taste. The rooms are clean and comfortable.
We got a King room; the bathroom was spotless and very comfortable.
The only issue I have is with the Night concierge (April 7 @ 2am)
I mentioned we booked the room via Booking.com and the reservation was not in the system yet; the concierge told me to "walk" if I didn't like it. RUDE !!!
He did honor the price that Booking.com offered.
Overall is a great place to stay.
Parking is xtra $10 per day.
Internet is available for a fee.

We purchased a Groupon for 2 nights stay at the Berkley for $200. We had never been to Asbury Park and just wanted a pleasant getaway. Due to the price, we set our expectations low, and just wanted a clean, safe hotel. We were pleasantly surprised by the charm of the hotel which looks like it has had a lot of updating. It has a funky, contemporary vibe mixed with the twenties architecture. The lobby is attractive and the front desk staff are pleasant, attentive and friendly. Our room was great. It was the size of a one room condo with generous sitting area, king size bed, roomy bathroom and dressing area. The room was well appointed and had new, contemporary furniture, 3 windows and panoramic ocean views from 2 sides of the room. The restaurant had great food, attentive waitstaff. The location was excellent, right off the boardwalk and only steps from several landmarks. There were only a few negatives. There is still some maintenance that needs to be done, bathroom had stray caulking and paint on the marble. There are other areas of deferred maintenance throughout the hotel that keeps it from being really great, but for the most part it is very good and you can tell that the place is being brought up to standard. The hotel is not clearly recognizable as such, there is no signage that identifies it as The Berkley Hotel. Parking is sparse. Overall it was a great value for the money and we thoroughly enjoyed staying there. We found we have really fallen in love with Asbury Park as well as The Berkely. We are already planning our next trip there.
