We checked in around 6pm for 1 night and received a deluxe 2 double bed room with a partial ocean view on the 3rd floor, room 320. It was clean and a no frills kind of room. The bathroom was small and reminded me of the bathroom in my grandparents basement in the 1980 s with the electrical socket in the light fixture above the mirror. The patio was a good size and had plastic lawn chairs to sit on. There was a coffee maker and an ironing board, which worked best if you were 4ft tall. Right across the street was the boardwalk and beach. In the building directly across from our room was Cubacan, Watermark restaurant and an icecream shop. There were also food trucks along the boardwalk too so you didn't really need to drive anywhere to eat or get a drink. The beach though, you had to pay, really?? Anyways, The Stoned Pony was just a quick walk up the street. While we were there it appeared someone was filming at the beach for a TV show and again at the bar by the pool at the hotel later that night. We went down to get a drink then felt like we were intruding on a set so we just went back to our room. Yes it is attached to a nightclub, however where our room was we were not bothered by it at all. They offer Free Parking and Free WiFi. It says they are a non smoking hotel, however there were ashtrays when you got off of the elevators and it smelled of smoke in the hotel, not so much in our room though. Is it the nicest hotel in the area? I hope not.. Would we stay here again, sure we would.

I got a wonderful corner room on the 3rd floor. I was going to see a show at the Famous Stone Pony. The view and room were amazing. If you are lucky enough to get room 341(i think) you will not be disappointed. There is no need to purchase tickets for shows on the summer stage. You have a perfect view. The staff at the Empress are friendly and profesional. The only down side is limited parking. Otherwise u have to pay. About $10.00 for 24 hours. All in all Empress is place to stay in Asbury Park for any event. Espically for shows at stone pony. Right across the street. The nightclub at hotel is primarly alternative lifestyles so keep in mind for late night drinks in hotel bar, but fun none the less. Definately stay at Empress Hotel.

the empress is a great place to stay, clean, personable, and centrally located to everything. the biggest plus is its reasonable rates, which are great! check in was a breeze, there are extra towels in the room, beds are comfortable, and like i said, everything in asbury is in walking distance from the hotel, some of the best places--right across the street.

Room Tip: try to get a room with an ocean view, but overlooking the pool could be nice too.

I definitely had low expectations, but the hotel was very nice. Clean, comfortable, and an oceanfront room with breakfast, pool and free parking! It was a very enjoyable experience and pretty reasonable for mid week on the July 4th holiday. I would stay there again without hesitation. Plus, at night, the hotel took on a cool, party vibe and the staff couldn't be nicer.

Room Tip: We had an oceanfront room on the 4th floor, which was great. I was worried it might be noisy at night, but it wasn't. I highly recommend taking the stairs as the elevator is REALLY slow. Otherwise, it was a great trip.

The Empress doesn't deserve this kind of management. The hotel's location can't be beat, and the fact that a pool, beach bar, and dance club are all on premises are additional points in favor of the hotel.

Unfortunately, however, the hard product is the only thing good about this hotel. They pride themselves as a TripAdvisor award winner, yet their staff and rooms fail to deliver. We arrived to find our room filled with cigarette smoke, despite this being advertised as a non smoking hotel. When we complained to the management and asked to be moved to another room, the management's response was that they were very sorry, but the previous night's guests had to be removed by the police and that there was nothing they could do as they were completely booked. Throw in rude hotel staff that shouted at us (and other guests) and bartenders at the pool bar who called us names and you have our experience at the Empress...customer service is definitely NOT job #1!
