“Go when it's quiet for the pizza.”
Reviewed July 9, 2012 via mobile

We have been a few times now so feel this review is fair. Saturday nights are to be avoided, unless you enjoy lining up for 30 minutes to get into what can only be described as a fist-pumping turkey farm with a DJ playing Lil Wayne B-tracks. During the week, Porta is far more relaxed. The pizzas are great but expensive, as are the drinks. Try the nutella pizza, as it is amazing! The service varies. Some staff are good, some are not good. The bartender increased my rating to average. However, If you drink wine, don't expect a wine glass. Probably will go back, but only for nutella pizza. Everything else is verging on being lame.

“Delicious!”
Reviewed July 8, 2012

Pizza is awesome. Good thin crust, great sauce and really great, creative toppings. Went on a Thursday night and the place was packed. Were told it would be a 45 minute wait for a table for two so we ate at the bar. Highly recommend it. Didn't try the pasta but a friend told me the pasta here is also delicious. Only complaint is they don't do take out, would have loved to get a pizza to take home!

“More than a pizzeria.”
Reviewed July 4, 2012

This place is very trendy, housed in a old warehouse where The Boss, Bruce Springsteen, first saw Clarence Clemmons perform. Porta in Italian means door, they say it means door always open. The place is decorated with many doors all along the walls. It is noisy and you will likely sit with others on their long wooden picnic tables and benches. The have a full service bar, wine is served in regular drinking glasses like they do in Italy. What make's it unique are the pizza ovens that were all made in Naples and shipped here. These cook pizza @ 800-1000 degrees so they are done very quickly. They also have appetizers and pasta dishes. They offer 16 very unique pizza choices, The one called 14 1/2 is great & spicy, not for those who can't take the heat. They have only 5 pasta dishes and serve appy, dinner, or family sized portions. The Bootzin was excellent.

“Terrible”
Reviewed July 3, 2012

This was by far the worst restaurant I have ever been to. Ordered the pasta (which was $32.00) and it tast like under cooked wheat pasta with an extra gummy texture (Yuck!!!). The salad (which was an extra $10.00) was not much better. I did not eat my meal, just pushed it aside and left, feeling hungrey and robbed. The atmosphere does not reflect the exsorbent prices. An old service station with picnic tables. I would not go back, even if held at gun point. The rest of my party shared the same view. If I could give lower than one star, I would. It doesnt even deserve one star.

“Quirky....but good!”
Reviewed June 28, 2012

If you are looking for ambience, quiet, romance and beautiful decor, this is not the place for you. But if you don't mind possibly sharing a very long table with other diners, sitting on a bench instead of a chair, minimal decor (if you call it that), very loud noise level and sparatic service, go ahead and try Porta because the wood burning pizzas, stromboli's and salads are worth what you give up otherwise. Dress uber casual, prepare to talk loudly to your dining partner(s) and order up a beer from the monstrous selection....and you'll surely walk out with a full and satisfied belly. Oh, and they don't take reservations. So if you are going on the weekend during the Summer....be prepared for a VERY VERY long wait.
