If you are looking for indie films, this is the place. Several nights offer classic flicks, other nights offer first run indie films. A bit of as mixed mess as for te space and seating though. I guess if you like homey...

Don't know why it took me this long to discover the artsy Showroom movie theatre in Asbury Park. A few weeks back, I was looking to find where a somewhat esoteric movie was playing. It was playing in only two theaters in NJ, one being the Showroom. Unfortunately, it has just closed. Having discovered the Showroom, I then put it on my watch list, together with the Red Bank Cinema. Sure enough, another great, but esoteric indie movie, The Attack, was playing there last weekend. If you love indie films and don't live in or near NYC or Philly, this place is a true find. The three theaters in the Showroom are more like tiny viewing rooms. Seats are very comfy and have good lines of sight. Ticket prices are moderate. Hope we can keep the Showcase alive and thriving for many years to come. It's a gem.

Passed by this venue frequently and never paid much attention to it. Happened to see a flyer/poster for an event and decided to give it a try. Watched a documentary film called "Somm", about four candidates attempting to pass the examination to become a Master Sommelier. It showed the trials and tribulations of all of the work in preparation to pass this grueling exam and the emotional highs and lows before, during and after the examination. This film was an award winning documentary which had garnered several awards. After the showing of the film, there was a wine tasting for those who viewed the film, hosted by a local wine boutique and some appetizer snacks provided by a local restaurant. This gave us a whole new appreciation and provided an eye opening experience to become a Master Sommelier.
After the tasting, signed up to be put on The Showroom's mailing list and noticed some upcoming events. Decided to attend another event at this venue and were not disappointed. Attended a showing of "20 Feet From Stardom", which chronicled the world of back up singers from the 50's through the present. Excellent documentary and a very revealing look behind the scenes of various back up singers and their near fame/fame experiences.
The Showroom has a small concession stand offering the usual movie delicacies and also has individually fresh brewed coffee and gourmet snacks. The venue is also available for private use. Definitely a hidden gem and I guarantee we'll be going back often.

I've lived in the area forever, and didn't know that we have an arts theater in Asbury Park. They have several small theaters with new, comfortable seats, and show interesting films and documentaries that aren't shown elsewhere. We paid only $5 a ticket for the afternoon showing of the Oscar winner for Best Documentary. Discussion groups are scheduled before or after certain showings, and, yes, they even have popcorn! The theater is in an area with interesting shops and restaurants. Well worth a visit.
