At the Hotel Tides in Asbury Park – great for a delicious late dinner at the bar, try the Steak Frites, Pan-seared Scallops, and Fig and Bleu Cheese Salad, while absorbing the somewhat edgy, funky-hip atmosphere in this unexpected gem among the beautifully restored homes on the northern fringe of the city, well off the beaten track. Rooms are small and ho-hum, but with very comfy beds interesting bathroom design features -- bring flip-flops to wear on the painfully but prettily pebbled shower floor. As others have written the windows do open to fresh air . . . thanks goodness as the temp is controlled by a central thermostat and our room was about 95 degrees. The staff was warm, welcoming, accommodating, and engaging. However, for accommodations at this price you can do much better at The Asbury Ocean Beach Inn a few blocks south on Asbury Avenue and on the beaten track.

Room Tip: go for a king with a fridge, they must be bigger . . . .

Hotel Tides is deceptive from the exterior. Blends into the neighborhood. The inside is tastefully decorated and has a cozy feel. The staff was very nice and took care of anything we needed immediately. That was MOST appreciated. The room was clean and the beds very comfortable. Lots of towels and pillows. The windows actually opened to fresh air.
A couple of minor points...
There are no elevators so if you are rooming on the 3rd floor a bit of a hike.
The shower has large pebbles cemented on the floor that are very uncomfortable. Suggest bringing flip flops.
Overall, we would definitely stay here again.

We arrived Friday night to music and a lively crowd. Our room was clean and front desk staff was nice. Our stay was a mixture of business and pleasure. We will be returning to Asbury Park and I think we'll stay here again.

I would give it an excellent review however I had two small issues with our stay. I booked a queen bed and I am sure that we received a full bed. We checked in late and they had a full house so I'm sure we got last room available. Additionally we usually don't have our room cleaned when we stay at a hotel as we are pretty neat and my husband has a cpap that shouldn't ben moved around. Someone was in our room made our bed but didn't straighten or clean up the bathroom or other areas. This was slightly unnerving; nothing was missing but we clearly had the privacy please on our door and someone was in our room.

Room Tip: Ask for wifi password at checkin.

Hotel Tides has done a nice job modernizing an old building. Public areas are fun, with a great vibe. Nice, private pool area. Good bathrooms, beautiful fixtures, very very clean. Rooms are inconsistent in terms of size within same price category. Traveling with a group of friends gave us the opportunity to see 5 different rooms. Overall I think the rooms are overpriced considering the lack of amenities.
We had a queen size room, very comfortable bed, though with barely any room to walk around it. In fact I hit my knee several times throughout the weekend on the corner of the bed frame and left with bruises. No chair, NO READING LAMPS, no tissues, it was indeed the most minimalist hotel experience ever. Ask for a corner room, they seem to have plenty of space plus a chair or bench to put some clothes on, as opposed to having to put everything on the floor. Both were the same price. Our room should only have had a double bed so something else could go in it.
Location is good, close enough to walk to the beach far away enough from the boardwalk and noise. Rooms are not soundproof at all, you can unfortunately hear through the walls. The restaurant is only open for dinner, food was excellent, in fact one of the best meals I've had in a restaurant in the area.
Staff was a mixed bag. Front desk is often unattended. I can't remember her name, but one of the staff who may have been an assistant manager was great; courteous, efficient, thoughtful, a true hospitality professional. I wish I could say the same for the actual manager. His rude, sarcastic (and not funny) sense of humor was quite insulting. He may have a good eye for decorating but has a lot to learn about customer service. It is his unfortunate attitude that colored much of the experience and in combination with the lack of basics in the rooms that will keep me from returning.

Room Tip: ask for corner room

second time staying here and would definitely stay again. A friend who visited was also impressed at the value for the price. Everyone is incredibly friendly, the rooms are clean and modern- suprisingly modern given the look of the hotel. the pool is beautiful and probably doesn't get enough visitors. restaurant is really cute, and the bar menu looked tasty. the spa option sounded lovely, but with groupon, etc., I'm spoiled and not willing to pay normal spa prices.

My wife had a great stay at the Hotel Tides over the Memorial Day weekend. Our plan was a little bicycle tour of the Jersey Shore. Not the Jersey Shore of Snooki and crew as seen on TV and filmed in Seaside Heights. Instead we opted for an alternative Shore adventure. Taking the Seastreak ferry from Manhattan to Sandy Hook and then biking through the national park and relatively quiet towns of Sea Bright, Monmouth Beach, Long Branch, and Deal. Ultimately, the destination of our 18-mile ride would be Asbury Park and the Hotel Tides. We arrived at the Hotel Tides in the early afternoon. The hotel is well maintained and our king size room was clean, fresh, bright, airy, and tastefully decorated. After dumping off our gear we spent the afternoon lounging by the pool, enjoyed a tasty Mahi Mahi sandwich and a few cocktails. Before heading out for the evening my wife had a 1-hour massage. She said it was one of the best massages she has ever had. This is high praise coming from a physical therapist and frequent spa visitor. We spent our evening checking out Asbury Park. Dinner at the Brickwall Tavern then drinks and dancing at Asbury Lanes. Overall it was a great trip and would highly recommend the Hotel Tides.

We stayed overnight for a short winter get away. The area around the hotel seems to be changing for the better and the hotel is a 2-block walk from the boardwalk and the ocean.

What I did like: the staff, hands down, are the best part of this hotel! They were all very friendly and welcoming. There is a restaurant at the hotel, and the food was delicious and a nice variety to the menu. The continental breakfast (included with the room) is a nice way to start the day.

What I didn't like: The rooms are quite small and there's no place to sit except on the bed. We could hear everyone who walked by our room, so the walls are on the thinner side. Parking is on the street.
