1st visit and our family of 5 shared the chicken nachos and had tacos, burritos and enchiladas. Food was fresh and delicious. Under 100 for five including margarita and beers. Great value. Reminded me of my old local Mexican places in San Diego. Will return soon

Our first visit to La Loteria was by chance.. We walked into it!!! It won us over and it has become one of the go to places whatever we are in the mood for good affordable Mexican food! The restaurant sits in a building at the corner of Matison and Bond Streets in Asbury Park, about one block in from Cookman's Avenue- the main drag and about a couple of blocks from the train station. This building houses a complex of restaurants and entertainment venues that all have accessibility from within, very convenient! Among the restaurant choices, are Bond Street Bar,(one of my favorites!), Capitoline, and the Basement for entertainment. La Loteria's décor is open and airy offering sidewalk sitting where you are allow to sit with your pet if required. There is a decent size bar as soon as you enter through the main door; the dining area offers various sitting arrangements to cater party sizes of 2 to a group. The wait staff is friendly and knowledgeable of the Menu or Daily Specials. The Margaritas are amazing! They reminded me of the ones I had in LA at Melody Bar and Grill, authentic and mixed from scratch. The food although somewhat diluted to please all it still acceptable. The complimentary chips and sauce are delish! At this restaurant we have tried different dishes including, Corn Esquites, Guacamole, various Quesadillas and House Specials. All have been excellent choices with great taste and appropriate serving sizes. If you are ever in the area and want to try affordable down to earth authentic Mexican dishes, give La Loteria a try!

It starts when you walk in the door: There is just a super fun vibe. Great setting. Tall ceilings, which adds to the noise, but hey, it's a party. Interesting drink choices, including specially-flavored margaritas and mojitos. Fortunately, the bar tender knows that when you want a drink, you'd like some alcohol in it! Lots of sipping tequilas and cervesas. We started with their housemade guacamole, which was great, accompanied by totopos, which are a nice change from tortilla chips. Speaking of tortilla soup, which was delicious. What's nice is that the menu is based on small plates, so you can have lots of different samples. My wife and I tried the cerdo (pork and pineapple) and found it a bit salty. I also had the tuna taco which was wonderful: Fresh and bright with a little crema on top. Our son, who is dairy allergic, had La Cerentia (shrimp with a mango, jicama slaw, a Vegetarian Taco, featuring nopales, and El Jefe (SPICY chorizo) Although we mentioned his dairy allergy, one of them had crema on top. When we pointed this out to them, they were very apologetic and fixed it pronto, Our server was warm and friendly. Definitely worth a visit.

Held my Wife's birthday bash downstairs in the Complex bar. The food from Loteria was fast, fresh and amazing. Highly recommend the Roast Corn in the Mason Jar, any of the tacos that involve meat. Fish Tacos as good as any place in San Diego. As good as the food is, the service and attention was exceptional. All that and competitive ping pong with tunes from the early 80s to mid 90s pumped through the speakers. Check it out and you can't go wrong with food from either restaurant upstairs. If you want an Asbury experience, it's all in one place at the Complex.
