We stayed in a junior suite overlooking a gorgeous garden full of hummingbirds, tanagers, squirrels and iguanas living among flowering trees. The charming rooms were adorned with authentic antiques and coffee-axis / Colombian memorabilia. The in-room hammock was relaxing. The dining menu was very comprehensive with excellent food worthy a five star restaurant. That being said, breakfast was a bore...the usual uninspirational "how would you like eggs". The front desk was extremely helpful with tour bookings and they went out of their way to help. I would recommend adding a couple touches to make it a five star experience: welcome drink on arrival, better breakfast, water service at night or mini-bar, turn-down service....it is just shy of five stars. Finally, purely subjective, but the soft, slow 80s music that played all the time was too much for me (think Whitney, Sade, Air Supply etc).

If you get a standard room you may not be wowed! The location is perfect for day-trips in the region.

It's a very nice place to stay for a couple nights and everyone is very helpful and friendly.

The rooms and grounds are very nice but you should know what to expect before booking. I'd originally booked a Junior suite and what I got was a very small room with a glass door opening up onto the public area where the restaurant is. There's actually a table/chairs right outside your window. These may or may not be intended for sole use of people in junior suite, but people at other tables can still see in your windows, so unless you closed all the blinds, there is very little privacy. It may be worth booking directly with the hotel to make sure you get a room you can actually keep the blinds open in.

Fortunately we were able to upgrade to a proper suite and this was FAR bigger, which much better privacy. It had beautiful cathedral ceilings with exposed beams, a large shower open to the outside, lots of windows, etc. We were very happy with the room after the switch. The price differential between the suite and jr. suite made it a no-brainer although I know they gave me a break from their advertised price (there was after all a reason I didn't book a full suite in the first place). Either way, they get points for making us happy and not making me fight over it.

The restaurant is good although service can be a little slow since there's only the one waiter and the tables are kind of spread out among several areas, both inside and outside. We also used the spa and felt quite refreshed afterward.

Room Tip: book a suite. If booking a jr. suite, ask for one that doesn't open up onto the restaurant and h...

The staff are gorgeous, patient, friendly and very helpful but had limited English so if a problem arose there was difficulties. The location was beautiful set amongst palms and trees with birds abounding. A peaceful, relaxing setting. However.... The first room ( Jnr Suite) (7) had no windows or view but a small courtyard with an open roof to let in the rain. The room was very small with a ladder leading to a loft with a single bed. To turn on the hot water tap - NO water! Bedside light faulty, English instructions for safe incorrect, no wifi, no TV signal, bathroom so small the door had to be closed to stand near the basin. We asked to be moved and the staff very graciously moved us to a grand suite (10). This area looked very luxurious, the bathroom being the same size as the bedroom with table and chairs on the enclosed verandah. Pity, still no TV or wifi signal ( very weak) and the power point on a cable under the bed. No instructions or information are provided for any tourist activities or hotel services. The restaurant is quite good without being brilliant.
We think this hotel has great potential if only many minor problems could be attended to.

This is a long review, so if you just want the summary, I advise you don't stay here but do visit Pereira staying somewhere else.

Early signs so often predict things to come and we should have known when the girl on reception answered the phone during check-in and chatted to her friend for the duration of our time in front of her.

The good bits were the individual staff members trying to provide good service (Ray was especially nice) and the quality of the food at dinner was also good.

The property requires experienced management and the staff require training - the property also needs a little maintenance. Our biggest disappointment was the lack of information available on tours and activities in the area. There as literally nothing in the room. So we asked at reception - do you have a map of Pereira? No. Do you have some leaflets or recommendations on what to do during our stay? Not really. They had a computer print out of trips from one company all of which were in Spanish (sure, we should learn the lingo, I get that) and no durations or details.

So a hotel 15km (30 mins, $10 by taxi) out of town but sold as in the heart of coffee country doesn't have much information on what to do. We tried to book a trip through reception in Spanish but it ended up being expensive, and we were told late the night before we had to pay the driver in cash; it could not be put be put on our hotel bill.

And then there's the little things that add up. We were the only guests in the hotel 2 nights out of 3. So you can imagine our surprise when at breakfast each day they sprayed detergent on the restaurant terrace floor and mopped it. There were over 23 hours when this area was unoccupied, so why do it when we are having breakfast? The once we tried to use the pool (in its lovely setting) it was too dirty and the chemicals last added were sat on the bottom in powder form. Nearly every member of staff told us to use the spa in a rather crude sales effort, but there wasn't even the common sense approach to putting a Spa menu/list in the room. There was no compendium, no meal times, no laundry facilities, nothing in the rooms we had to tell you about the hotel. The owner/manager was absent when we checked in and had dinner - in fact we first met her when she walked unannounced into our room at 8am. Sure, we'd been offered to move rooms and no-one had told her, because there was no management or processes in place that help hotels run smoothly. She spent anytime she was visible at the property walking around on the phone.

The property is in nice settings, the fixtures and fittings are becoming dated but are very clean. The rooms are fitted out with dark wood and the windows look out onto covered balconies so the rooms we saw were pretty dark.

Pereira is a nice place. We had fun at the Parc Nacional de Cafe (go for 4-5 hours to enjoy properly), we had lovely meals at El Mason Espanol and Amar, but unfortunately the hotel was disappointing.

We had three nights here and thoroughly enjoyed it. The hotel is in a small gated community well away from the city. We had a standard room which was very clean and comfortable. Our patio overlooked the gardens and swimming pool.
The staff were very efficient and nothing was too much trouble for them. The food was good and reasonably priced by English standards. However, there was limited vegetarian choice, but that it not uncommon.
There were many different kinds of birds, squirrels and iguanas in the garden that you could sit and watch for ages. If you want a hotel where you are not surrounded by people that has terrific service, this is the place for you.

If you want to feel like in a farm near to towm, this hotel is just about 15 m away from downtown. Doesn't look like many other hotels, it is a very nice house away from the city with beautiful surrondings, bog trees and bamboos and birds everywere. If ypu are here with family or business trip... This is a very good option. Don't forget to wash your hands on the public washroom on the entrace... What a experience !
