“Peaceful property very tranquil but taxi drivers go WHERE IS THAT??”
Reviewed April 10, 2014

Although this property is really right off a vey well known and travelled road the taxi drivers look puzzled when giving them the address. Perhaps if I were a local or spoke fluent spanish I could have given them a little help but honestly too many taxi drivers did not have an incling on how to get me here. I fear its the fact that taxistas are not that well trained or tested in learning all the streets in this huge metropolitan city. The hotel is nice although not a word of english is uttered and one feels a bit like a specimen under a microscope. The hotel is well protcted and one can feel quite safe here. the front electric gate is daunting and TALL perhaps built for a vey different and more dangerous, Medellin of days gone by. I recommend this hotel but make sure to bring your electronic translator and colombian pesos and snacks. There are no vending machines, or minibars here. the pool was not kept up at all and the beach chairs are unusable. The maid service was outstanding. A nice tip is appreciated and well deserved. For the price the place is great but scary when your Spanish is less than and the taxi driver is asking pedestrians and other taxi drivers and motrists how to get here. Seriously scary at night in a lonely cab with a less than knowledgeable cabby..oh and by the way the street is one way in the wrong direction. Bummer. Walking to the local mall is possible just watch out for the drivers who have no problem mowing you down. Suggestion, take a cab and call a cab service who knows this street and hotel. You dont want to leave here without the address and directions how to get here. Jumping into a local cab and saying take me to the hotel la casa medellin will not be good enough!!!!!!? A word to the wise,

This is a very nice small hotel in a great residential area about a 5 minute walk to the center of the financial and commercial area of Medellin where everything is located. (Note: It is 5 minutes going to the commercial area but coming back it is about a 10 minute walk because the hill is STEEP!) The street is called "Loma de Los Balsos" which means "Hill of the Balsos".

There are 10 rooms which are different sizes so the price depends largely on the size of the room because all the rooms have the same features except for the biggest room which also has a Jacuzzi, but it was booked, so I stayed in room #4 which has a balcony overlooking the city. I recommend this room because it is a nice size with a large flat screen TV and direct TV with English channels. Breakfast was included and the staff was great.

Also, the price! I booked it last minute online, and it was 1/2 the price listed on the web site. This is something they apparently do often when there is an available room available so check the online booking sites if you are travelling last minute.

Room Tip: Rooms #9 and #4 are the best. #9 has a Jacuzzi and #4 has a balcony with table overlooking the city...

I very much enjoyed my stay at La Casa Medellin. It is a very large house that has been converted into a hotel. It is a very interesting alternative to the larger hotels in Medellin. I have family in Medellin so I know the area very well and I visit several times a year. Although there are many nice hotels now in Medellin I plan on returning to La Casa Medellin on my next visits.

The thing I liked the most was the excellent service. Because it is a small hotel the staff always know who you are and are very friendly and helpful. The rooms are of the same level of quality as any expensive hotel in Poblado. My room had a private jacuzzi, Direct TV and a beautiful king size bed.

There is a nice large pool, however, Medellin is not really a good place to swim due to the climate. Breakfast was typical piasa and a bit limited. The kitchen is open for anyone who wants to cook diner and there is an excellent restaurant behind the hotel with a full service menu. The hotel has menus for the restaurant, and anything can be ordered directly to your room at the normal restaurant prices so it is almost exactly like room service.

The location for my could not be better. My family lives just a 10 minute walk from the hotel. I now some of the backpacker types think that Medellin is Parque Lleras and nothing more. Well, I have stayed in hotels in Parque Lleras and I guess it is a great place if you like listing to pounding music until 4:00am. La Casa Medellin is on a side street off of Cr. 9 (also known as Loma de Los Balsos) which is arguably the best residential area in all of Medellin. Not only is it completely quit like traditional homes built in the area by rich families, but it is also only a few minute walk to the heart of the Golden Mile.

For those not familiar with the term “The Golden Mile” this is what locals call Avenue Poblado starting at Los Balsos and ending about where the hotel Dann is (depending on who you ask). The mile is the financial district and main shopping area of the city. For instance, the Hotel La Casa Medellin is about a 5 minute walk to the Santafe Shopping Center which has over 600 high end stores, a massive food court, department stores and grocery stores. Then directly across the street is the 24 hour Carrulla grocery store (the only 24 hour grocery store in Medellin). As someone walks down the street of the golden mile they will find other shopping centers, Hard Rock Cafe Medellin and many clubs and Casinos. But if you really, really, really think Parque Lleras is the only location in Medellin, then a cab will cost you around $3:00 USD.

I am giving the hotel 5 stars because of the excellent friendly service, the beautiful room and the great location.

One final note, the garden is outstanding! I do not know how I forgot to mention this above. There are thousands of different plants, flowers and massive mature trees in all parts of the property. In the mornings I would sit beside the pool having my coffee and watch the dozens of birds fly from tree to tree while the sun was coming out. Is was nothing short of gorgeous. I admit I am a bit bias because as a child I grew up in Medellin before moving to Cartagena. Some day I will return to live in the city I still love.

Room Tip: Go with room 10. It has a Jacuzzi and a bathroom larger than many hotel rooms I have been in.

very well located in a quiet area in Poblado. Ten minutes from the huge Santa Fe commercial centre with its excellent Crepes and Waffles restaurant (among many others). Fifteen minutes downhill takes you to the excellent Metro (Aquacatala stop), about 20 minutes uphill on return. Spanish is needed as no one spoke English. The rooms are clean with effective air-conditioning and hot showers with a strong flow of water. The pool is very attractive. The main drawback is the poor breakfast, meagre and with little variety. There is an excellent restaurant just around the corner which serves a very good lunch and dinner - important as the hotel serves only breakfast.

First time to Medellin hotel is very close to malls and downtown. Easy to walk or get a taxi to where you want to go.
Staff speaks very little English .
Breakfast to order is included.
Nice weber gas grill for guest to use
By the pool area. Things in walking distance are Hard Rock Cafe , super
Market, malls, and restaurants.
Rooms are nice size and very clean.
Wi-Fi worked very good and was included. Will stay again!

We ordered a room with jacuzzi but at our arrival this was strangely not available. Instead, we got a much smaller room with a SAD view (parking lot) and complementary cockroaches. The staff was ok and booking.com turned out to be responsible for the jacuzzi mix up, but still I would not recommend this place to anyone. Small pool, so so breakfast, location far from perfect and big cockroaches (!!). Hugely overpriced!!
