“Botero....magnificent”

There not a place in the world to see all the artist work as his beloved and natal place. Worth a visit.

“Amazing Blend of History and Contemporary Art”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 1, 2013

Fresh off a disappointing visit to the New York MOMA on our way to Colombia, this museum was a breath of fresh air. The historic artifacts and paintings were great and included some amazing handicrafts, but what really amazed us was the contemporary Colombian art. A special exhibit on ceramic art showcased traditional pottery alongside modern ceramics, including a wall installation composed of hundreds of tiny terracotta figures and some beautiful complex clay forms called Marine Animals. There was a great installation showcasing Colombian punk and hardcore records, and several pieces referencing the civil war that were amazing, including a player piano that used human teeth to hit the keys and an AK-47 turned into a guitar. The Botero gallery was really wonderful also, as is the free Botero sculpture garden outside. Just one tip: don't bother with the audio tour, it wasn't very helpful.

“An excellent museum, well worth a visit”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 28, 2013

The three floors contain an excellent collection of Fernando Botero’s paintings, drawings and sculpture, some of which dates back to the 1950s. The permanent collection also contains some early Colombia religious art and there are even a few moderns from Robert Rauschenberg to Frank Stella. There were some modern installations and an informative ceramics exhibit when I visited. One extra treat were the 2nd and 3rd floor windows that provided great perspectives and photo ops of Botero Plaza and its many sculptures. Photos were permitted in the museum ‘without flash‘. The cost was 10K COP when I visited.
