“Highlight of our Colombia trip!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 19, 2013

We arranged to do the horseback ride, waterfall trek and Jardin town coffee tour with Andreas. He picked us up promptly in the morning and even helped my husband get some aspirin for a headache on our way out to the horse adventure. Andreas is incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about the area. We stopped for coffee at a cute cafe overlooking a river with lush scenery before hitting the road again.

I'm a lifelong equestrian, and I was pleased to find our local horses were well-looked-after and strong. Being paso finos, they are on the small side, but they tromped through mud, galloped up hills and navigated hillsides amazingly well. Jaime, who owns the horses, looked after us very well. We rode for close to an hour and then dismounted to trek to a gorgeous waterfall. Jaime helped us on the path the whole way -- he doesn't speak English but with our rudimentary Spanish and his care we made it down the slippery, but beautiful, path. After snapping some photos and enjoying the spray from the waterfall, we climbed back up and rode back on the horses. We met back up with Andreas and drove to Jaime's house in for lunch, after a quick stop at another beautiful finca (farm) to take in the view. Jaime's wife prepared a hearty country meal, which we all enjoyed. Her patacones were amazing!

After that, Andreas took us on a tour of Jardin, one of the cutest small towns I've ever seen. We saw the main square, got great shots of the intricate balconies, and visited a coffee roasting facility (where we picked up some pure arabica at less than $6/pound). Everywhere we went, people were happy to see Andreas and happy to excited to show us their homes, shops or streets.

We visited one more place off the beaten path -- a coffee processing plant, where each sack of beans is tested and evaluated. For a couple of wine dorks like my husband and me, it was awesome to see the tiny chemistry lab that tests all the coffee.

On the way back, Andreas told us more about his family and the region. We had an absolutely amazing time and would recommend LandVenture to anyone who wants an off-the-beaten-path time in Medellin. We will be back for another tour next time we're in Colombia!

“Awesome Adventure Coffee Tour!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 4, 2013

If you’re looking for an excellent day out in Medellin, contact Andres at Land Adventure Tours. Not only was he very responsive and reliable, he also customized our tour to fit our interests and time available. The all-day (approx 12 hrs) custom-made outing cost about USD $110/person including transportation (pick up/drop off at our hotel in Medellin), lunches, tours, four-wheeling & zip-lining. Our tour guide, Andres, spoke perfect English and was able to translate when necessary so that our multinational group could all understand. Andres’ passion for his country was obvious and he wanted to show us some of the best views and unique experiences it has to offer. He took the time to get to know us and went out of his way to make it an awesome experience. Highlights included Concordia Coffee Farm, a local chorizo stand for lunch, four-wheeling and zip-lining in Bolivar. A great experience, don’t miss it!

Following is a more detailed account of the day:

I was in Medellin Colombia, on an extended business trip with several multinational colleagues With an open day on a weekend, we were looking for a reputable tour operator to experience the beautiful Colombian countryside. Others in our company suggested Land Adventure Tours and Andres as they had used the services before and were very satisfied.

Our group contacted Andres by email and we received immediate responses (within one hour). He asked what type of things we wanted to see, which was the Antioquia countryside and coffee farms, along with some high energy fun. Andres quickly suggested a combination tour of Concordia and Bolívar. These can be done as separate tours, but Andres offered to combine these as it best fit our needs, and could be combined at a reasonable price.

Andres picked our group up at our hotel in Medellin at 8:30am.. As we were a multi-national group, it was a huge benefit that Andreas spoke perfect English. Ho took the time to meet all of us to understand what we wanted out of the tour. We were a group of 5 and comfortably fit in the very nice vehicle.

Or first destination, about a 2 hour ride from the center of Medellin was Concordia. The ride to Concordia was absolutely beautiful, through the mountainous regions, small towns and country side. Andres stopped in a small town along the way for a stretch break, where he provided water for the group.

Concordia is an operational coffee farm. We arrived and were warmly greeted by the owners, offered cups of coffee, and showed around the property. It was like they were welcoming us to their home. We were then taken up the mountain into the coffee fields to see the plantation. This involved a great ride in the back of a pickup truck through the winding trails. The views were awesome, at some points we were above the clouds. The owner explained much about the coffee growing and harvesting process. Andres help fill in when the English communication was difficult. We went back to the farm and were given a tour of the process of transforming the raw coffee to the marketable product. The owners have installed a small roasting and grinding operation and offered their own coffee for sale, which we all purchased. As it turns out, the price is excellent (about US$4/pound). I should have bought more than the 3.5 pound that I did)

The group was hungry upon leaving and Andres suggested a top at a nearby outdoor chorizo “stand”. A great local experience where we had grilled chorizo, and cold beverages. A spur of the minute stop, but another highlight.

We then went on to Bolivar, about 1.5 hours from Concordia. This is more a of a local resort than a coffee farm. It is situated in the mountains with more great scenery. This was the “adventure” portion of the tour. We were taken up the mountain as passengers on 4-wheelers. The VERY narrow winding trails offered a thrill, but felt safe at the same time. Then it was time for the zip line. We were taken on 4-wheelerss up the mountainside to the take-off point. The operators trained us for a bit on what to do and one by one, we rode the zip line across the valley. This is a must do as the ride was fun and exhilarating. Some of our group took-up the offer for a second ride. We had a late lunch at the resort. The lunch was less than great. But Andres recognized this, asked our opinion, and said he would find a better place for future tours.

We then departed back to Medellin, another 2 hour ride arriving at 7:30pm. Upon our arrival, Andres offered us the SD card from his camera, which he was using the entire day to photograph our outing. My “cynical” personality expected this to be a sell job, where we would pay for the picture. On the contrary, Andres simply gave us the SD card and only asked when we copied the pictures, we would leave the card at the hotel deck for him to pic-up. What a nice touch!!

“Andres - simply the best”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 29, 2013

In April my husband and I diid a three week loop through Colombia. As it was our first visit to Colombia we were not sure what to expect. A visit to a coffee plantation was high on our list. Our host Noah at our bed-and-breakfast Su Casa recommended Andres' Landventure Tours and made the arrangements for us. We did the Concordia coffee tour. Andres's impeccable service exceeded our expectations at every turn. Not only is he bilingual (Spanish/English), he is passionate and proud of his country and the emerging tourism market. We felt safe and also that our business was appreciated. The vehicle was new and in excellent condition. It came equipped with a GPS that measured altitude and reading the rapid changes it registered as we ascended and descended became part of the day's fun. Andres takes pride in his service and it shows from allowing us endless photo opportunities to endless questions about the countryside and about Colombia itself. The selection of the coffee plantation we toured and the panoramic restaurant for lunch afterwards were spot-on. Some of our best photos of the entire trip were taken at the coffee plantation and in the colourful town of Concordia. Andres is a bit of a naturalist, and he identified native birds and plants throughout the day, something I personally apprecaited. Also, we forgot a souvenir in the vehicle and did not realize it, and Andres returned it to us at Su Casa the following day. Imagine our delight at that! We are already planning to return to Colombia next year and spending more time in the Medellin area. And yes, we will be taking more tours with Andres.

“Amaga Bike Tour”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 22, 2013

Andres and Juan were superb. My tour mates were 2 Colombians who are regular mountain bikers. They were truly impressed with the quality equipment provided, the instruction on biking tips offered and the organization of the Amaga tour route, as well as the historical and cultural information explained during the tour. Our biking leader Juan expertly accommodated the riding ability of individuals for each to experience the most in biking through the amazingly beautiful mountains and countryside. Looking forward to exploring other routes via Andres and his top-rate team during future visits to Medellin.

“LandVenture Travel with Andres is the BEST!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 31, 2013

I, along with other family members from various parts of the USA, had the amazing opportunity to spend 2 days with Andres on 2 consecutive tours. We were in Medellin for a wedding, and the bride (who is from Medellin) prearranged these tours. Since her family also joined us, some of us only spoke English, and some only Spanish. No problem for Andres! He picked up all 18 of us in a bus (with driver), and used a microphone system to describe the history, culture, scenic points, etc. in Spanish, and then English. He speaks impeccable Engilish! We went on a coffee plantation tour in Concordia, had a prearranged lunch at a wonderful local restaurant, and then visited the lovely town of Jardin. He knows the locals there also, so you get a real flavor of the culture, and a more thorough tour of houses, etc. The next day there were 11 of us for a tour around Medellin, so he picked us up in a smaller bus, and then proceeded to take us all around his beautiful city, including a ride up the hillside on the metrocable. Andres is not only an intelligent, interesting guide, he is so personable that he quickly becomes a friend. He is interested in making sure you have the best experience possible, even to the point of stopping at several grocery stores to find that one special item you want from Medellin to take home with you. Thank you, Andres, for making this one of the most memorable trips I've ever had worldwide.! Andres Munera, the owner of LandVenture Travel is the only option for anyone who wants to completely experience Medellin and its surrounding area, including an amazing coffee plantation tour. We hope to see you once again in the future!
