I came across this relatively new hotel while looking for places to stay on and around Carrera 70, my favourite part of town when it comes to spending the night. I´m no fan of El Poblado, as I find it too expensive and also too far from anywhere. Laureles on the other hand is connected to the efficient and safe Metro system, has quite a number of restaurants and little bars within walking distance and is safe.
The Hotel Quinta Avenida is in a modern building and follows a "New York" theme. The room I was in was big and very comfortable, fully equipped with kingsize bed, nightstand, closet, flatscreen TV and modern en-suite bathroom. There was also a balcony with chairs and table. Wifi wasn´t always reliable, but the staff never failed to get it back to working. Breakfast, which was included, consisted of the typical Colombian fare, which is eggs and arepa or toast. Not enough to get you through the day, but definitely OK.
The staff was in general helpful and polite - friendly, yet not always over-enthusiastic to attend. It would have been a really nice stay, had not a massive group of teenagers arrived shortly after me. At times it felt like being in an extremely over-priced youth hostel. The staff could have tried a lot harder to maintain an acceptable noise level.
Nevertheless - as long as there is not a hord of youngsters staying, too - I would return to this hotel. The location is great, the rooms are pretty nice and the rates are acceptable. The metro station "Estadio" is less than 10 mins on foot and there is a big Éxito supermarket less than 5 minutes away.
