“Can be great... or awful”
Reviewed February 8, 2014

The Italian owner was warm, welcoming and friendly when we entered.

The beef Carpaccio (carpaccio di manzo) was disappointing. Although the ingredients were great, the meat was tough, and thicker than normal. About half the pieces were very chewy, and had to eventually just be swallowed whole.

The linguine carbonara was fantastic…one of the best I’ve had.

But the seafood dish róbalo puttanesca was bad. The puttanesca was a good, rich recipe. But the róbalo (sea bass) was not a filet, as advertised, but rather pieces. Some were raw, some were OK, and some were globs of skin or fat of some kind. The worst fish we’ve had in Colombia (since 2010).

The worst part was that they overcharged us for the róbalo. I would have thought it was an honest mistake, except for the long string of really-outlandish excuses that the owner offered up before finally refunding the difference. It looked intentional to me.

It's a classy place... but I will not chance it again.

“Excellent Italian Restaurant”
Reviewed August 19, 2013

My husband and I had a wonderful dinner last night. The owner is very kind and helpful. The music was out of this world. The taste of our two dishes (veggie mosaic and breaded shrimps) was great. The apple strudel had a little too much dough, but tasted very good. It was a very good meal, and we would certainly go back at any moment.

“Delightful food art made food”

If you feel like testing some delicious Italian food different from pizza or the ordinary spaghetti this is the right place to do it so. Fish and meat are a safe choice here.

“Solid and authentic Italian Restaurant in Laureles, Medellin”
Reviewed March 1, 2012

A new addition to not very interesting Restaurant landscape in the Laureles sector of Medellin, Il Massimo is a nicely decorated Italian restaurant that serves an interesting variety of quite authentic italian food.
I went three times so far and did enjoy the food, which might be a little bit on the heavy side at times. Starters were nice as were the Spaghetti. It's certainly reassuring to know the chef uses De Cecco pasta and is also otherwise trying to ensure that he has the right ingredients. When I say authentic Italian food, I also mean that there is none of the usual local (paisa) influence destroying the food experience (such as panna cotta with arequipe, for instance).
Having opened just recently, service is probably not yet at it's full speed but friendly and willing. The atmosphere is nice and I can only hope that more people will try it out so that the ambiance becomes a bit more busy.
Certainly a worthy addition to the restaurants in Laureles!
