The Wandering Paisa
Ranked #23 of 244 Specialty Lodging in Medellin
Certificate of Excellence

I visited Colombia for a couple of weeks in February 2012, and the Wandering Paisa was by far the best hostel that I stayed at during my brief time. I had three full days in Medellin, and the staff is the main factor that made this hostel so exceptional. All were extremely helpful and were fully bi-lingual (Spanish-English), which is rare to find in Colombia. I had some problems with the tour agency that was making some arrangements for me, and one of the staff members was instrumental in trouble-shooting. All the staff gave great advice about local logistics and travel recommendations.

The location is excellent--convenient to a number of good local dining places and easy walking distance to the Metro.

The free Wi-Fi is inconsistent (as are most locations in Colombia) but there is a reliable Internet connection that you can pay for in order to make essential online connections.

The main advantage to this hostel remains with the great staff. They will make you feel welcome and safe in this great city.

I was only able to stay in medilline for a few days but if I could I would have stayed at least a week at The Wandering Paisa. The hostel is well kept and run by a friendly staff who all speak English (plus a few other languages !) Its got a great lounge and a friendly bar on sight so there is always something to do regardless of what night it is. There are even a few hammock to swing around in on your off time

Pretty cool hostel. When I was there, we saw problems with bathroom flooding and toilet paper re-stocking, I think because of some lame guests; these didn't seem to be regular problems. Cool bar with house beers. Don't get the caipirinha and I also suggest avoiding the salsa lessons. Two things stood out about this place. The staff is exceptional; extremely friendly, helpful, knowledgable, and chill. The second is the location, for me, was awesome. You can just kinda' do as the locals do, walk down to the park area, hop on mass transit, and enoy the beautiful women of Medellin. I swear to God, just walking to the grocery store a couple blocks away was like going to a Victoria's Secrets fashion show. You'll see. The area is sick with beautiful, confident women.

The karaoke shows, the language nights and the salsa course have been an excellent idea.

I spent a month here in a private room and the only negative was that it made going to my next destinations tough. This property's quality starts from the very top, meaning it's obvious that the owners put effort to maintain a quality experience for all passers-by. The employees were also obviously picked for a reason because I can only report great experience with dealing with every one of them over a months time period. Every one of them is friendly and accessible. The location is perfect.. Close to several grocery stores, restaurants and little salsa clubs up on la setenta. If you want to party harder, parque lleras is a $5 USD taxi ride away. Kitchen was ideal, lounging and TV areas were awesome with a wide variety of content on the entertainment hard drive. You can't go wrong staying at the Wandering Paisa.. stop looking at other places and book this place now.

Room Tip: I had a private room (Ecuador) which was perfect. Several friends I made stayed in the dorms which w...

I had a good time here. There were plenty of things going on during the weekend, language exchange, open mic. I met some kewl local people and went out partying in the local area and also poblado. its close to the metro and downtown sights but far away from the party area where the rich people live (poblado). Taxi was cheap so not a problem. would come back easily just because it was easy to make friends and meet (mostly) cool guests. lots of young people.

Additional: my apologies to the previous reviewer, I believe I was the one who smelled like "beer p***" in the dorm. Next time i swear not to party so your delicate nostrils will not be so offended so much as to keep you awake. ;)
