Casa Estudio Su Casa Colombia
Ranked #5 of 166 Medellin B&B and Inns
Reviewed May 24, 2011

From the get-go you know you're in good hands at Su Casa Colombia. Marcela and Noah are a young, energetic, American couple who have transformed Marcela's family's Medellin home into a cosy and authentic Colombian bed & breakfast. The level of service they provided every day was incredible. Beautiful rooms, fresh coffee when you return in the afternoon, iced water whenever we arrived home, complimentary laundry service, warm fresh towels in the afternoon, wifi and not to mention an amazing breakfast. Each morning, they introduced us to a bevy of delicious Colombian tropical fruits and arepas, a corn patty Colombians traditionally eat for breakfast. We’d have arepas with scrambled eggs and queso fresco (a fresh farmers cheese similar to fetta) and when we weren’t feasting on arepas, Marcela whipped up banana pancakes or french toast. Everything was lovely.

If you stay with them, or even if you don't (which would be a mistake), you must, must, MUST organise a visit to their finca (family ranch). We had such an amazing time with Marcela and Noah; we stayed with them for over a week, well more than we had originally intended. Each day was like catching up with old friends. If you ask nicely, they'll even take you out one night to the most incredible locals bar in Medellin. They not only provide a bed and breakfast but a plethora of knowledge on both Medellin and Colombia as a whole. They even gave us helpful fact sheets on our subsequent Colombian destinations when we departed.

We would totally recommend Su Casa Colombia; we left a little melancholic, feeling like we were leaving behind new friends. You'd have to be absolutely crazy not to love it!

Noah and Marcella are wonderful hosts and true ambassadors of Medellin - not only is the B & B a great place to experience the true Colombia but they enhance that by sharing their knowledge about both the city and country , as well as tips on what to see and do. Without Su Casa Medellin may not have become our favorite city. Fantastic!!!!!!

Noah and Marcela are a charming, energetic, and enthusiastic young couple and the perfect hosts/guides/fixers/friends/etc for visitors to Medellin and the surrounding countryside. They have a tremendous familial network in the city and were quickly able to arrange everything from locating the perfect poncho and classic barbershop to getting prescription eye medicine delivered to their home for us. Breakfasts are delicious, varied, and a great way to start each day. Definitely include a trip to their family's Finca as same is not to be missed and included the best food of our entire trip!

Believe me when I say it just doesn't get any better than this! Do not hesitate to travel to Medellin and most certainly STAY with Noah and Marcella at Su Casa Colombia. We have traveled extensively and our experiences in Colombia and at this Inn were first rate and beyond compare. The innkeepers? We think of them like family now. They MADE our trip. Personalized attention! Word to the wise- if Noah or Marcella tell you that something is worth seeing or doing- BELIEVE IT. DO IT. The house itself is so charming and comfortable. The bed and linens were very nice. Su Casa is located in a great residential neighborhood away from traditional tourist areas but the perfect location for anywhere in the city you want to go. Restaurants, bakeries, grocery stores, shopping are all within walking distance. And the metro is right around the corner. And safety in Medellin? We felt safer there then anywhere else we have traveled in the world. Normal precautions of course but we have come to believe that the negative hype we hear about Colombia and/or Medellin is spread by people who want to keep this incredible place to themselves! GO GO GO !!!!

Noah and Marcella made us feel like we were visiting family. It was so great to stay in a "regular" neighborhood. Even though Noah and Marcela are American, their knowledge and the location gave us such a feeling for the "real" Colombia. I admit to having traveled to Colombia with a twinge of concern about safety. This did not last long. We walked and took public transportation into a variety of neighborhoods during both day and night. Medellin felt safer than most large U.S. cities. I don't think I would have felt as safe, had we not been able to really talk to some Americans who are actually living there. Marcela and Noah are so knowledgeable about Colombia and so invested in their guests having a great experience. Beautiful city, perfect weather, great food, interesting sites to see, coupled with perfect hosts. What are you waiting for?

It has been said before and it is true... the service here is excellent! We had a great time here and stayed longer than planned and saw much more of the city than we expected! Travel books just can't compete with Noah and Marcella as they know the tourist areas as well the local hot spots. Before we went here, we weren't sure if the location was good, because it is not in the seemingly more international Poblado area. Actually, the location is great. It is safe, convenient located near 2 metro stops and lots of good restaurants. The hotel is situated in a house in a quiet neighborhood so it feels more like a home (bed and breakfast type) than a hotel. Highly recommended!

Noah and Marcela are fantastic people to help plan your trip and show you around Medellin and Columbia. They know all the best places to go and allow you to pick what kind of experience you want to have- culture, nightlife, relaxation, food, adventure...they have it all.

Skip the generic "tour bus" experience some other firms offer because you would much rather have a couple showing you around who are fun and energized, and have an intimate knowledge of the community and things to do besides whats found in the Lonely Planet guide.

I had booked my hotel before I found Su Casa, so we just went on day trips (Paragliding, Guatape etc.) and nights out together, but I did stop by their B&B and it was really nice and clean. Would certainly have stayed there.

Noah and Marcela became good friends by the time I left Medellin, and I would definitely recommend anyone to work or stay with them.
