Casa Kiwi Hostel Medellin

Arrived late at night in Medellin and hoped to get into Casa Kiwi - unfortunately they were booked up so we had to stay a night in the crap-hole round the corner. Came back the next morning hoping for another room, lovely girl working at reception was really helpful and ended up securing us a lovely private room for the night.

Spent some time at the bar, which had a nice chilled atmosphere, and our room was peaceful and beautiful and so comfy! Nice one, Kiwi.

Awesome hostel, very clean and fun!
Located in a very nice neighborhood, walking distance to transport, bars and restaurants. In the hostel I met interesting and fun people from all over the world, I really recommend this place if you are looking for a low budget hostel in the city.

hostel is nice, lacking bathrooms but has a nice kitchen and roof deck. however, the staff truly do not give a damn! they are beyond rude and unhelpful, ridiculously unknowledgable about the most basic things and basically too busy thinking they´re really cool to bother doing their jobs.

overpriced and overrated...avoid.

Stayed here for a few days and was having a good experience until we had a run-in with the staff with a shaved head that wears glasses...(Other Staff were really nice) We were saying in a private with a shared bathroom and when we came to check in there was no room for the other couple we came with, we discovered there was an extra single bed in the room and asked if they minded if the couple could share this bed. They agreed and when it came time to check out for the couple they wanted to put the price of the room up from 70,000 to 120,000, which was the price for a 4 bed room, we argued saying there were only 3 beds and they shared a single but the guy wouldn't budge, he started getting heaps aggressive and pacing back and forth cracking his knuckles, he went on to start acusing us of letting someone stay for free... Complete idiot!! We payed the amount in the end as we could tell he was not going to budge ( even when he had a full hostel ) ....

But the jokes on him because when we checked out two days later the guy who was working forgot to charge us for 1 of the nights and for any of the drinks we had...

11 days in Medellin Colombia has been one of THE BEST for me!!! Casa Kiwi hostel (we had a private room and private bath) was AWESOME!!! The staff was helpful and very friendly and most spoke English. It is located in the Parque lleras area. The City of ETERNAL SPRING has such beauty and the people are wonderful. They truly admire the American people and culture, and I felt very accepting here in this country. I also felt very safe, despite what people say about this country. Times have changed... If you are looking for a wonderful place to visit or to vacation... Medellin (CITY OF ETERNAL SPRING) is DEFINITELY the place to go!!!!

Room Tip: third floor is the best view and more quiet, ask for a front view of casa kiwi... 50.00 a night for...

I have to say I'm surprised at other lukewarm reviews. I think Casa Kiwi has it (almost) all. There's a massive deck where you can either water yourself at the nearby bar, chill in the hammock, eat dinner, or take advantage of the solid wifi. The weather in Medellin is always deck friendly, and the deck looks down onto the tree lined street and a brook.

The hostel is directly across the street from a (albeti overpriced) little grocery store, and above a bunch of bakeries/cafes. The kitchen is good sized and amply stocked with a large dining table perfect for group dinners. There's a really nice little movie theater and a pool table next to the kitchen, and an entire separate "computer room" with 4 desktops and another big dining table for laptopping/eating/whatever, next to two big couches next to a little table in a courtyard. This place has stellar common spaces downstairs, and then you get to the roof which has a terrace with a small pool and a few tables and chairs. The view is awesome and it's the perfect place to lounge.

The vibe is indeed social and the place does fill up with partiers on weekends (Friday there's live music!) but I found the room to be far enough from the party that sleeping wasn't a problem.

The one downside to my dorm (bamboo) was that ceilings were low enough that I couldn't sit up on the top bunk and the ventilation was minimal. There could be one or two more bathrooms, but overall everything was very clean.

Staff is cool and helpful. There are often lots of people around, but I spent plenty of time working on my computer with the deck, dining room, or computer space to myself.

Location is super in that the main nightlife/shopping/hang out areas are all within 5 min walk and the metro is only 15 min walk and lots of local buses stop 10 min away. Taxis pass regularly.

Room Tip: Bamboo dorm had low ceilings/stale air- dorms on other side might be better? All privates look like...
