I base this review on previous stays at the Dann Carlton, Park 10, and Belfort, and upon reviews of other hotels here on Tripadvisor.

I have been at the Hotel for a week, and am in Medellin on business.

The hotel is excellent in every way. The rooms are really clean, and especially so with laminate flooring that is easily cleaned rather than the dirty carpets in many other hotels.

Internet is really good. This is especially important, given complaints on tripadvisor about internet service at the Porton, Hotel San Fernando and others.

Service is outstanding throughout. Location is good, a couple of blocks away from the noise of the main thoroughfare in Poblado.

Food is excellent. As a diabetic and vegetarian, I am extremely picky, and they cook to order perfectly. Terrrific buffet breakfast.

There is a small gym here, but if you want a serious workout, go to the Bodytech Gym in Vizcaya center, world class but a tad expensive, which is a five minute cab drive away (you can buy a ten pass for $150).

Overall, safe, clean, great food, great internet, great location, outstanding service.

Okay hotel, very close to the Santa Fe mall and in nice neighborhood. It is away from the main roads and has their own private transportation. Another plus is the pool, and the spa services down stairs.

After reading all of the reviews on Tripadvisor, we decided on the Royal Medellin - it sounded like the best location and service for the money.

Overall the hotel is decent, the service at the front desk, main entrance and at the breakfast restaurant was very good (although it seemed like much less people spoke English than was mentioned in the reviews). None the less, we got by in our mediocre Spanish. However...Housekeeping totally dropped the ball. I'm not saying that our room was dirty, however she took things like our facecloth and shower cap (they only have a rain shower shower head) and never replaced them! She also never gave us new soaps and only gave us 2 towels. When we called down and asked for more towels, a facecloth and a shower cap, they never arrived! Also, once we were gone for over 4 hours (and left our Make Up The Room sign on the door), but when we returned the room was not made up. Nor did we get turn-down service (as mentioned in the reviews) over the 3 nights we were there.

Also, on our first day there housekeeping knocked on the door and handed by husband two little bottles of Evian. We drank them thinking that they were complimentary. On our second day there was 1 little bottle of Evian left on the desk, we drank that too. We also drank 1 bottle that was in the mini bar - obviously thinking that we would have to pay for this 1 bottle. However when we checked out they charged us for 4 bottles! We explained the circumstances of how we received the first 3 bottles . The woman at the front desk said they have had this issues with people thinking the water was complimentary before. Go figure! She ended up making us pay for 2 bottles and gave us 2 bottles at no charge. If they simply put a tent card in the room explaining that these bottles are not complimentary (even if they are handed directly to you), I think they would have way less issues in the future.

A few other things were mentioning is that the massages at the spa were not great. They were service oriented and quite kind, but the 2 masseuses we had seemed to lack training. Also, the front desk were not very helpful with providing information or recommendations for restaurants and the breakfast buffet was OK, but nothing special,

That being said, the hotel was good value (only $123.50/night) and in a great location. The issues with housekeeping and the water would not keep me from recommending this hotel.

Stayed here in august 2010. Was extremely surprised with the service and staff- would highly recommend this place. The atmosphere was great, great clean and spacious modern rooms, some have amazing views (front facing higher floors). All rooms have big windows and great beds.

I recently took a trip to Medellin and found this hotel to be excellent. The staff was very courteous and helpful. Anything you could ask for/want, they would help you with. Location is perfect- on one of the hills in the nicer region of Medellin, el Poblado. There is the Santafe mall (standard mall with stores and department stores/modern grocery) two blocks from the hotel (2 min walk). Definitely feel very safe in this location and it's easy to get a cab from the hotel.

Definitely seems more like a business hotel (it's very new, clean, and modern) but I did notice some families staying there. I stayed with one of my friends and found the hotel to be great. It seemed like a good blend between a trendy, modern and a comfortable hotel. The beds were great and the rooms had anything you needed.

Breakfast is buffet style and very good and diverse in options. Staff is great and is willing to help you out or point you in the right direction. They helped us book reservations at the famous restaurant in Medellin called "El Cielo." Location is great- but like many places in Medellin, you will have to take a cab everywhere. Many of the restaurants/nightlife are in Parque Lleras which is around a 5 min cab ride from the hotel (depending on traffic).

I would definitely stay there again, if I travel back to Medellin.
