“Try to find something better...”
Reviewed October 23, 2011

I've been in this hotel for two nights with my boyfriend and I certainly can say that since we are traveling through this country we've never been hosted in such a bad place. The private room is small, dark and with a window next to the main hall, not mention the smells of insecticide that has persisted throughout our stay there. The bed deserves a special complaint, it is not as comfortable, its composition of wood borers could not give us a good night sleep even if you are tired. The shared bathroom is filthy, bring your flip flops and be prepared to face it. What we know as "party hostel" for this hostel is just loud music until late at night. The kitchen has absolutely nothing, besides a refrigerator and a stove, two pans and cutlery .... besides running the risk of having your stuff stolen in the refrigerator. The "Free WiFi with the Highest speed internet offered in Medellin", according to the website, is really slow and is always on and off. All this for more than 30 USD per night. My advice for you is try to look for something better for the same price or less (in the same neighborhood there is plenty of hostels).

We have stayed in hostels around the world and the Tiger Paw is one of the best. You start with their great location, 10 minutes from the metro and 2 minutes to great restaurants, bars and night clubs. Add in the fact that the hostel has a great staff, clean and comfortable rooms and clean showers that always have hot water and you have all the makings for a great night. They even make up your bed every day! It is true that they start the music playing at 6, but it is always off by the time that you might want to go to bed- and they let you DJ if you want. For the price, this is one of the best hostels around and I would recommend it to anyone

Room Tip: Make a reservation, as they fill up quickly!

Lot of things that made my stay uncomfortable in this hostel:
- The poor music at a very loud volume from 6 p.m even if there is nobody at the bar. Our demand to turn down the volume was refused. Very annoying if you want to take a rest before going out. Besides, rooms are not at all isolated from the noise.

- We were asked to leave immediatly cause we hadn't precise we would stay more than 2 days ans other people made a reservation. The staff never asked us when we were supposed to leave but said it was to us to warn them before.

- Very poor kitchen which lacks of almost everything

- You have to do deposit for your keys AND your towel so be careful to havew a lot of cash.

I am here right now...

The reason I am writing this review is because I need something to keep me occupied as even with earplugs and the dorm room furthest from the common area I still can't even entertain the thought of sleep. The reason being there is, for the 3rd time tonight, the greatest hits album of a certain white rapper from 8 mile... amongst other muffled and half played horrors from the 90's.

GOOD>
The bathrooms are clean, the bedding is a little ordinary but clean and neat, the dorms are clean and sufficient, but...

BAD>
The music! OH the music... and the few people watching a movie in the DVD room are cranking it to ungodly volumes to compete with the music... The kitchen is barely adequate, 3 broken pots, a bunch of plastic plates, 3 forks and not a cup in site...

MISLEADING>
The rooftop terrace is a square of tiled roof about 2X2meters... you can stand and look but thats it...

Go to Casa Kiwi or the Pitstop I have heard good things about them and will be moving to one of them tomorrow!

Room Tip: go elswhere...

We arrived at Tiger Paw and asked for a room and the girl at the front desk didn't know if she had one until we pointed it out to her that on the wall it clearly said they had 2 double rooms available. We got the room and it smelled, had a terrible broken mattress and no windows to the outside. Staff proved to be extremely unhelpful and at times rude. The building was not secure non-residents were allowed free range of the hostal including the resident crack head. Do not stay here!!!!

Tiger Paw was a fab hostel and one of the cleanest we have stayed in, location is fantastic and the staff are always there to help. We had a great night out arranged by the hostel on a party bus around Medellin which was great. Free towels with a small deposit, good warm and powerful showers which is great after some other hostels and the beds are AMAZING, lonely planet is not wrong when it says the most comfortable beds in Medellin. Would def go back and recommend highly. If you are a light sleeper and aren't into big nights out I wouldn't stay more than one or two nights esp on the weekends, during the week noise levels are grand.

My husband and I stayed here for 4 nights. It is in the Zona Rosa district and is relatively quite for the location. Our room was really dark with no natural light and it had a musty smell. The rooftop deck was super small and was only used for smokers. The common areas were small but the bar was nice and featured local beers. It is one of the only places in town to watch American football. It is a long walk to the metro and the restaurants are more expensive here. I would only stay here for the weekend then move on.
