Before you even get to the escalators, you have to walk up a pretty steep hill....murals/graffiti very good, and the area is crowded with tourists. Street vendors, performers (some not so great) all competing for a bit of cash. Recommend taking a tour here as they will explain the history and some of the murals.

Wonderful guided tour today of Comuna 13 and El Centro including the Boltero sculptures. Fantastic story of urban gentrification and providing economic access where it otherwise would have been impossible.

No visit to Cominal 13 is complete without taking a ride on the Escaleras Electricas. There’s 6 escalators and they all offer a great look at the local murals which make this part of Comunal 13 so famous.
Designed as a means of transport for the local community, they take tourists into the heart of the community, and they serve a great purpose than just transportation, unlike their brethren in Hong Kong!

This hands down was my favorite part of the trip. The amazing arts and grafiti people did on the walls, building and stairs is what makes it so unique. Once you reach the top there's so much more beauty to see. I will deff be doing this again and I highly recommend others to go!

Take these escalators up to comuna 13. They are free, not too packed, and you get some nice views along the way of the community and murals.
