“Lacking in content”
Reviewed February 12, 2013 via mobile

I dropped by this museum a day after my visit to both Museum of Gold across the square and the Modern Artt Museum. It's a nice building with plenty of history but unless you really take your time to soak up the atmosphere there just isn't enough to see. The upstairs area has one model and nothing but text on the wall about how they restored the building a few years back: what about the inquisition ? How about testimonies of people who lived at the time instead ? Seriously lacking in content.

“interesting”
Reviewed February 9, 2013

This was a nice museum where we learned alot about Cartagena and Colombia history. We paid a guy at the door a few pesos and he guided us around. Said he spoke english but my husband had to translate anyway! If you are in Cartagena, this should be a place to see!

“Heretics beware!”
Reviewed January 15, 2013

This museum will interest anyone with an interest in history, particularly related to Spanish Roman Catholic colonial traditions. You should note that there is more here than just gruesome instruments of torture (pity those witches!). For example, one can also see pre-Columbian pottery and various historical objects such as pictures and church bells. Some items that I found very interesting were a scale model from the early days of independence and old maps. If you're not fluent in Spanish, you may have difficulty here. Be prepared, when you enter individuals will offer to sell you their services as guides through the museum. Since a member of our party was fluent in Spanish, we declined.

“Nice museum - not quite my taste”
Reviewed January 6, 2013

Plenty of stuff here about all kinds of torture apparatus - if you are into it. We were told there was some explanation in English but that was misleading and we had a hard time understanding what this was about. But the exhibits were obvious and I suppose interesting to some..

“Yikes... !!!”
Reviewed January 2, 2013

This was definitely a no win situation for women who were deemed a witch (which could have been nearly anyone)... Our tour guide Sandy provide more historical background which helped since most everything we ran into was only in spanish..
