“Nothing to complain”
Reviewed June 21, 2010

We decided to stay in Casa la Fe mostly due to the great comments in Tripadvisor. Yes, the hotel itself is just about perfect, it's well located, the rooms are clean, the service is ok and breakfast is average as well when it comes to colombian standards etc.

We had booked a upper double, which in fact was a good choice because the rooms on the ground floor certainly are noisy in the morning or whenever people are passing by. My only complain is the price, which is slightly higher than the price offered by some similar nearby hotels.

I am Colombian and my wife is American. We went to Colombia to have a second wedding with our friends and family.
We spent the first few days of our vacation in Boca Grande. It was OK, but we really wanted to stay inside of “La ciudad amurallada.” While walking the old city at night I asked a police officer if he knew of a place that wouldn’t be too expensive inside of the old town. He told us about Casa La Fe.
We visited that night, spoke with the person at the front desk, and we checked-in the following morning. We did not care about loosing the money we had already paid at the other hotel. We wanted to stay there.
What a place! It has all the amenities that a traveler would want + more. The employees are very friendly; the place is immaculacy clean, and updated. You fell like you are staying at a friend’s house.
The espresso machine at the lobby, the Colombian chocolates, the pastries, and more are freebees that make you want to come back. I have never seen so much attention to detail and a place so customer oriented.
We loved taking the two little bikes for afternoon rides around the city (free of charge). By the end of your visit, you know everyone by name and you feel said that it is time to go.
They certainly made our vacation special and we cannot wait to go back!

I have to be honest and start by saying that although there are several fancier boutique hotels in the old city, Casa la Fe can easily surpass any expectations you may have for this kind of hotel. On the plus side: location, cleanliness, service, housekeeping (both the room and the old house), value, cute small terrace/pool, free internet; and the list can go on. On the minus side: rooms are a little tight, breakfast portions may be a little small for those with a good appetite (got to say though that they were delicious).

I travelled with my wife to cartagena and spent 4 nights at the hotel. We found the hotel staff friendly with a lovely family atmosphere and very helpful. The hotel itself has the beautiful charm of the old city with its spanish architecture. We stayed in the standard upper double rooms and with beautifully decorated en-suite bathrooms. The hotel has a small roof-top pool where it was lovely to relax in the sun and cool down from the heat of the day in the pool. It is located within the old walled city and is in easy walking distance of all the key sites except for the main fort of San Felipe. A light healthy breakfast of fresh fruits and and fresh juice is served with bread and eggs which sets one up for the day while in the evening there is a copious amount of dining choices all within walking distance from a take-away pizza in the same square to argentine steaks near the main square. The owner also charters a 36 yacht for day trips round the bay or for a couple of days to the rosario islands. We chartered it for the day trip, with the owner as Captain. It was a lovely way to spend the day and see Cartagena from a differnet perspective. The owner was charming and attentive and very informative with the history of Cartagena and the bay, and gave a great insight to how Cartagena developed and strategic importance it held as a city in the Spanish Empire. We stopped by the fort of Bocachica for lunch, where a local beach reastuarant served the tipical dish for Cartagena, fish, coco rice and patacones...very good value and sizes and very tasty.

All in all we had a wonderful stay in cartagena at casa La fe and it certainly lived up to our expectations and throughly enjoyed the atmosphere of the hotel, the friendliness its staff and the owners.

Recently stayed at this wonderful hotel and it lived up to its reputation for offering great service at reasonable price. Location in city centre is superb. Only comment would be that WiFi was a bit patchy in our bedroom but in all open areas of the hotel it was fast and Skype worked well for a zillion calls home. They also have a small gym with nice gear but I did not see many people using it- too hot in cartagena for working out!

We recently visited Cartagena on the spur of the moment as a side-trip from Bogota and took advantage of last minute discounts at Casa La Fe to book one of their balcony rooms. These rooms overlook a small plaza and a recent NYT article had quoted this as the setting for the Gabriel Marquez novel "Love in the time of cholera" so it was all very romantic sitting out on our balcony every evening. We used the hotel to organise trips and their printed maps were really useful with recommended restaurants and bars marked out. We found Cartagena an exciting but expensive city, four days is enough to see everything and can easily burn a hole in your pocket. In all we had a marvellous time and the hotel was perfect. Trip Advisor wins out again!

We have organised a deal with one top end city centre restaurant whereby they will discount CLF guests by 15% . We are currently working to persuade others to do likewise. However you can eat well at very reasonable prices if you avoid NYT featured restaurants.

Last few days of my honeymoon were spent with Geoff at Casa la fe, chartered the Taree (sailboat) with my wife to Rosario Islands, awsome adventure for us as a couple, Geoff the owner was a great guide and skipper and all in all very romantic for one or two couples, remember its not a cruise ship so a spirit of adventure is necessary. Spent our last two nights at Casa la fe very simple but chic and very much the feeling of a boutique B&B is how I can sum up the Casa la fe, service was spot on, breakfast was delicious and prices at this B&B are some of the best in all of Cartagena. So if you are expecting a large bustling 5 star hotel this is not it, this is for the those who have an appetite for authentic Cartagena a Cartagena that will leave enamored not only with people and the history but the sense of a trip filled with unique experiences that will last for many years to come. Thanks to Casa la fe for sharing our special moments together.
