“Great Vacation”
Reviewed January 30, 2012

We stayed 11 days at the Hotel Casa La Fe which is located in the center of the old city facing a nice plaza. The hotel is within easy walking distance to restaurants, shopping and museums within the walled city. We found the room to be pleasantly spacious, clean and quite comfortable. The breakfast served in the always pleasant and comfortable garden courtyard was excellent with a variety of menu items and always great coffee and fresh juices. The evening happy hour also in the courtyard and the roof top pool, especially after sun set, are also great features of the hotel. The staff was very attentive and helpful. Especially Adolfredis who, despite his claims to the contrary, spoke quite good English. We felt quite safe and secure in the hotel and in the entire walled city. Cartagena was a wonderful experience. The charm of Hotel Casa La Fe and the great staff were an integral part of a fabulous vacation. I would highly recommend the hotel and hope to return one day soon.
One note of caution -- be careful of ATM use. We used the stand alone ATM near the hotel on St Agustin. Our credit card information was stolen and we had ATM withdrawals made after our return home.
BUT the city of Cartagena was GREAT, the Hotel Casa La Fe was GREAT and the whole vacation was GREAT. We would do it all again in a heartbeat.

Room Tip: Our room was on the third floor. Even without an elevator, I would definately choose the second or t...

We stayed in the studio apartment owned by the hotel & had the best of both worlds. The apartment is a large 12th floor studio (living room with sleeping alcove, full kitchen, washer, large bathroom, huge balcony) in a luxury doorman building in the adjacent neighborhood of Manga. The apartment provides great amenities (amazing views of the city & bay, rooftop infinity lap pool, gym, much more space than a standard hotel room) with the added convenience of hotel services (daily breakfast & happy hour at the hotel - we went about 1/2 of the time, plus concierge services).

The drawback is the distance: it's a 10 minute walk to the main gate of the old city & another 5-10 minutes to the hotel. For us, it turned out to be a nice surprise. We had a chance to explore the charming Getsemani neighborhood (which is technically still part of the old city I think), which is has many wonderful restaurants & not as aggressively touristy (or as expensive) as within the walled city. We had several dinners that were MUCH less expensive & way more enjoyable than our dinner at La Vitrola. Taxis are also plentiful & cheap (between 5,000 & 8,000) when we didn't feel like walking.

Service at the hotel was warm & accommodating. They even called us at the apartment to make sure that we didn't have additional questions. Would highly recommend.

We moved here after our one night in Bocagrande convinced us that was not the place to stay, and we were very happy that we did. The hotel is located on a lively plaza in the centre of the old city, but away from the main sights, so you don't have the tourist hordes. There are many good restaurants close by and the main sights of Cartagena are within easy walking distance. There is a large Exito supermarket within 5 minutes walk. The price is good for a central location.

Most of the staff speak English, are very attentive and helpful, and will book tours and onward travel for you, efficiently and with a smile.

There is a choice of 4 different breakfasts, which were the nicest we had in Colombia. Breakfast is in a very pleasant, cool, garden courtyard, which is a pleasure to be in. There is a small roof top pool, with shade and lounge chairs. There is a happy hour from 6 to 7, with a glass of free beer.

The rooms are clean, reasonably large, with high ceilings, bedside tables, safe, TV, cupboard, fan and AC. Contrary to some reviewers' experience, our room cooled down quickly when the AC was turned on. There is hot water in the bathroom. We stayed on the third floor which was quiet. There is no elevator, but there is someone to carry the bags up.

Can't be faulted, based on our experience.

Casa La Fe was perfectly located with the walled area, but the rooms were pretty basic, especially for the price yet most hotels are pricey in the area. The service was great and they'll do a bag of laundry for no extea charge which is amazing. The breakfast is also good.

Our twin balcony room was spacious, beds were comfortable, wifi worked properly and the surroundings were fantastic, major attractions, good shops and superb restaurants. Very good cost in Cartagena!

Room Tip: Upper balcony are the best bet.

We absolutely loved our time at Casa La Fe. The location is in the heart of the old city, within walking distance to everything. The staff was super nice. The roof pool was charming. The free breakfast and coffee was great. I have nothing bad to sad about my experience.

This botique hotel is well situated in the heart of the old fortress city of Cartegena, and it is a well located and a secure option for a stay of a few days. The staff is welcoming and helpful with both English and Spanish spoken. The upper floor rooms command a view from private balconies of Plaza San Diego. The breakfast is ample and there is a small pool on the roof. There is wifi and the AC is excellent. There is no elevator. Restaurants are immediate to the area and there is a major chain store ( with ATM ) for groceries and all goods within three blocks.
