“Inside the Walls”
Reviewed May 8, 2014

The highlight of Colombia's Caribbean city, Cartagena is the old town where one finds wonderful examples of Gothic and Colonial architecture . Flowers abound and grace many plazas and squares. Buildings come in just about every color . Hours can be spent - wandering, people watching, sipping a sangria or having some ceviche.

“A lovely city with a lot of history on each of its streets”
Reviewed May 6, 2014

I had the chance to visit it , during my business trip to attend a workshop there, it is so nice,, with its little street that head you to lovely old houses , colonials ones,, with a lot of history that now are boutique hotels, I really enjoyed the food the international one, and I found several peruvian restaurants, the people are so friendly with the tourist, and take a ride on a carriage brought you to the past and in seconds your mind can lead you to the past and the rich of its culture.

“A taste of Colombia”
Reviewed May 5, 2014

If you're in Cartagena, this is THE place to visit. There are many historic buildings within old city which have been well maintained. Places here are clean and safe and I thoroughly enjoyed wandering through all the small streets lined with colorful houses and shops. We got lost a few times but it wasn't a big deal as you're essentially contained in the old city by the large city walls. It was fun to aimlessly wander - trying random restaurants, checking out local shops, and people watching. As others have mentioned, there are many pushy street vendors but just keep that in mind beforehand. There was plenty to see and do in this area - enough to keep me busy the whole day.

If you're off a cruise ship, you can grab a cab from the port to the old city for $20 each way. Prices are listed on a big sign by the taxi stands and are quite a bit cheaper than if you went with a first-party cruise tour. Keep in mind that due to the significant traffic, a cab to or from the old city can average 30-45 minutes each way.
