The walls "Murallas" are wonderfull, you must have a look at if you go Colombia, there are huge hystoric cannons on the walls. really suggestive, it's a must of Cartagena de Indias, the Caribbean pearl.

Walk around in the old town. It has a spanish flavour. It takes only a few hours to cross it in several directions. The buildings are (mostly) well mainained. Take a terrace and enjoy. Transport in many streets only by horsecarriages.

While on vacation in Cartagena we stayed in the Getsemani neighborhood, which is about a 10 minute walk from the walled city. We spent lots of time in the walled city. There are lots of restaurants, stores, souvenir shops and places to get ice cream or gelato. Or find a bench to sit on and people-watch. We were there in May, and temperatures were pretty hot during the day, but in the evenings it was very pleasant.

I'm from New Orleans and it reminded me a lot of the architecture there, but much larger. It's so much fun to explore the streets and wander in and out of all the shops there. Great restaurants in hidden squares abound.

Lively, vibrant and colourful with great eating places and wonderful small parks and plazas. Brilliant for just soaking up the atmosphere and the sun in equal measure. Street vendors were not too pushy and the folks are friendly.
