“Interesting old Monastery with good vistas of the harbor area and city”
Reviewed February 15, 2014

This is a moderately interesting old monastery with good vistas of Cartagena and its harbor area. It is not drop dead gorgeous but if you are here come see it for the panoramic views.
Lots of vendors around which kind of detracts from the feel of the place. This was part of our cruise excursion and had I known a little more about it I would probably have chosen a different excursion.

“Good views”
Reviewed February 13, 2014

I was on a tour so there was limited time at La Popa Monastery. I was disappointed at the amount of rubbish on the way up & around the parking area at the top.
The views were stunning.
The monastery was pretty and interesting.
There were a few tacky souvenir stalls at the entrance (same as anywhere else) & the food stalls weren't up to much.

“If you have time...”
Reviewed February 8, 2014

You've probably seen lots of colonial buildings with center courtyards in your travels in Colombia. The reason you would go to La Popa is for the views of the city, which are spectacular. The chapel is lovely and the foreign money exhibit is interesting. There are some handicraft vendors just outside the main entrance and you can bargain a bit with them.

“Best viewpoint overall for the City of Cartgena”
Reviewed February 3, 2014

Led by Marelvy Pena-Hall on a private tour (marelvy@tourincartagena.com), twelve seniors enjoyed a very polished explanation of the features of the city as well as this church. The views gave the context for the rest of the highlights tour of the Fortress (San Felipe) and the neighborhoods of Getsamani and Bocagrande. The driver of the a/c van was able to go through many narrow streets to reach our destination so much easier than big luxury coaches. Great guide, impressive old city, all in four hours!

“Start you tour of Cartagena here”
Reviewed January 30, 2014

Truly magnificent. 360 degree view of the city and surrounding area. Guide was great, pointing out the areas of the city, the point of significance of the church and the restrooms (great way to start an all day exploration). Typical mass of street vendors to the entrance but none inside. Take your time to truly enjoy the church, it is beautiful. Very easy tour with only one set of stairs at the start. Take a few minutes here to put the rest of your tour of the city in prospective.
