“Las Bovedas (The Vaults)”
Reviewed September 30, 2013

There are 23 shops here and many of them sell the same t-shirt or touristy item you'll find in most cities. I recall that number 23 had a better selection of handmade items although you will find some crafts in each of the shops. If you go here keep in mind what this building once was - a storage place used by the Spanish for munitions and provisions and then later it became a prison. The shops are along the wall so you can easily stop here if you are walking around the walled city - it abuts the sea and has a public banos that charges a small fee.

“Touristy shopping in an interesting location”
Reviewed September 3, 2013

Las Bovedas is a bit off the beaten path within the old city walls. The quality of items varies from shop to shop as does the pricing. You will see most of items for sale at other places that are closer to hotels and restaurants. I did find some unique art and was able to negotiate on the price. So depending on how much time you have, it is an ok place to go shopping. If you are walking around the entire walled city, this would be on your trek. The history of the Bovedas is something you should know before you go to be able to know what the various purposes of the stalls were used for and then juxtapose the history against the repurposing of the building now. Irony?

“Shopping and History”
Reviewed August 24, 2013

I love these little shops. If you are looking for a present to bring back home to a loved one, be sure to check the Bovedas out. You will find everything from emeralds to coffee. The shop with the hand painted rugs and leather goods is my favorite! Read up on the history of the Bovedas before going so that you will feel like you are entering a piece of History upon stepping in each one.

“Mostly disappointing”
Reviewed August 14, 2013

As other reviewers have noted this series of shops carry mostly the same merchandise that can be found almost anywhere. Two exceptions are stores number 6 and 22. Number 6 in particular had some interesting handmade pieces that I did not see in other stores and the shopkeeper's knowledge about and enthusiam for his pieces made shooping there such a pleasant experience, You can bargain and as is often the case the largest discounts are for cash as well as multiple purchases .

“If you dont go, you dont miss a thing”
Reviewed July 26, 2013 via mobile

It should not be listed as something to do. No longer a landmark. Only shops, expensive ones. You can get those things in the street.

If you have extra time it is ok, if not do not waste it there.
