“Tasty but well overpriced for the area”

We stayed nearby at the quaint Casa Le Fe and chose Alma for a late lunch due to the high rating on TripAdvisor. Had lobster empanadas for an appetizer - small and forgettable but pricy. Salads were creative with excellent bacon on top but were also overpriced. This is a town where you can get a fresh seafood meal and drinks for $10 US and our light meal of 4 salads with an appetizer and waters ran around $70 US ... I would recommend finding a favorite of the locals.

“Refined food with local touch, excellent service, and great ambiance”
Reviewed January 2, 2014

It was my last day in Cartagena and decided to try and walk-in at Alma, which had been full for the past few days. I was greeted with a smile and escorted to a table inside with a pleasant view of the courtyard (it was too hot to sit outside).

Right away you knew the entire team was aware of your presence and each person that walked by looked over at the table to be sure we had drinks and food.

The menu has a good variety of dishes and i decided to stick to seafood. I ordered the octopus carpaccio which was very good and nicely presented.

As an entree i selected a lobster and shrimp pasta which was well-balanced, flavorful, and sized appropriately (not too big or small in my opinion).

The coconut/lime pie came with sorbet and was simply delicious.

if you're looking for an above average place in Cartagena for a more intimate dinner or a group that wants to enjoy a good meal while on vacation, this is one of those places in Cartagena.

I suppose next time i would try and stay at this hotel since it gives me confidence the experience would likely be a good one (plus i'd have the restaurant right below the room!).

Octopus appetizer amazing. For us, tied for 1st with Don Juan over Vera, 1621 and Vitrola which are all very good.

“Great food, Marginal service”
Reviewed December 31, 2013

Had a 9:30 booking, got seated at 10 but did not get served until 11:30. Food came our barely warm, so it seemed to be the waiter's problem and not the kitchen's fault. Food quality and presentation were fantastic, price reasonable, but the ultra-slow service without any apology made for a less than great evening. Even after the long wait, 3 of the 4 meals were served, then another 10-15 minutes before the 4th meal came out. Admittedly it was Christmas holidays and they were full, but the quality is such that they should be full every night and be able to handle it. Drinks were slow to be delivered as well. Possibly an early seating might alleviate this issue.

“Slightly disappointing”
Reviewed December 28, 2013 via mobile

We read reviews for many different restaurants before selecting Alma for our Christmas Day celebration meal. We sat in the glamorous courtyard and our surroundings were beautiful. The menu looked interesting and tempting (although there was so little light we had to ask for a torch to read it!). Unfortunately 2 of the starters came out (hot ones) and there was a considerable wait for the other two (cold starters) so we couldn't eat together. We had requested no cheese on one but it arrived with cheese and had to be sent back. Three out of four main dishes were excellent but the pork chops were dry and we were told the polenta chips were not available and would be replaced with potato chips. When the dish arrived it had a very underwhelming mash instead. On the whole, a good evening was had but I think they could do better. Also, be prepared for unbelievable mark up for bottled water-COP19,000 (over £6 for 500ml!).
