“Right within city limits”
Reviewed October 31, 2013

Castillo San Felipe de Barajas this old fort dates back to 1536. It is an interesting place to walk around with many good views of the city. Biggest and strongest fort ever built by Spaniards during colonial times. It was never taken down despite several attempts. It also has many tunnels to explore. It is a climb but dose have ramps everywhere.

“nice rustic fort”
Reviewed October 29, 2013

all though the walk up may be too much for tourist requiring walking support or aid, it was worth the ticket cost, $10, my wife uses a cane and did not feel she could make the climb, clear views around the city and port , historic cannons and un touched walk ways and rooms, made you feel you stepped back in time. a Colombian beer and gift shop at the top to boot.

“Castle?”
Reviewed October 23, 2013

Seemed to be more of a military installation but still interesting walking through the old tunnels. Nice view at the top especially in the evening.

“a must-see when visiting Cartagena”
Reviewed October 22, 2013

This fortress was one of the largest I ever saw. It has a very interesting history and is a very interesting place to walk around and explore. You can also see nice views of the city all the way at the top of the fortress (near the Colombian flag). This is probably one of the most well-known sites of the city and would strongly recommend visiting it while in Cartagena.

Make sure you take the audio tour. It takes you through the different parts of the castle while telling you the history..
