Hotel Torre del Reloj
Ranked #132 of 158 Hotels in Cartagena
Reviewed April 26, 2014

As almost of you has already told here, this hotel has a very convenient location in the main entrance of the walled city. It is very clean and the employees are lovely and helpful. But breakfast is slow, because the guests depend on the housekeeper to serve them (no buffet service) and the options are only the basics - bread, coffee, jam, butter, eggs, fruits and juices. And it can be very loud at night - but this has not disturbed me during my stay. However, Torre del Reloj is quite expensive for what it offers. I stayed in a very good rental vocation apartment in Sydney last year for the same price and a superior accommodation quality. If noise doesn't disturb you and you're looking for a very convenient place to stay in Cartagena, I would recommend it.

Great location and staff. If you are like me that just need a good clean and cozy place to stay, this is your hotel. rooms are not big but have all you need with breakfast included. It is inside of the walled city right at one of the entrances which gives you access to cabs, restaurants and every sight you want to visit. Be aware that it is in the middle of the party area so it can be noisy at night.

This hotel is in a beautiful old house and has many interesting original features. The staff were very friendly and helpful even though no-one spoke English. We had a comfortable, clean room with a balcony. The hotel is in the clocktower square and is a great place from which to explore the old city but don't come here if you are a light sleeper, the party goes on all night, particularly on Saturday..... Breakfast was a little indifferent but good coffee and fruit juice.

So, like many people I've ended up at Torre De Reloj because I couldn't find another hotel in Cartagena during a major event (New Year's), and this hotel was available. As others have said it's well located, but the rooms are shockingly noisy - so don't stay here if you have issues with sleeping through music, barking dogs, people fighting, booming bass, cars honking or vendors calling from midnight to 5-6am. Cartagena is, after all, something of a party town - and the Torre De Reloj is right in the middle. The staff are super nice, but not very knowledgeable about the city, attractions or activities. If you give them a restaurant's number, they will call it for you - but don't ask for an opinion or involved excursion help.

My main sense about the place is that the management has resigned themselves to being a not-so-great property (read: lazy). All the fundamentals are good (location, room size, structure), but execution is just blah. Breakfast is super lame (and don't even think about asking for extra of the meager fruit salad or plastic cheese sandwich), doors are all mis-hung, the amazing roof terrace is fallow, wifi works in *almost* every room (but not room 2 - the big suite, FYI), the safes are barely functional (and room 6 doesn't have one), etc etc.

As long as you only need a place to stay, have eyeshades and earplugs (but don't expect to easily buy these in Colombia despite tons of drugstores), and low advance planning skills, the Torre De Reloj may be the right place for you.

Room Tip: If you want wifi, don't choose the big suite (Room 2). If you want a safe, don't stay in Roo...

The hotel is beautiful with friendly and helpful staff. Our room was quite small but nice. Especially the location is perfect and the famous salsa place Donde Fidel is almost next door :) Just the breakfast could be a bit more varied but since we stayed there just 3 nights it was ok for us.

You really could lose your heart in Cartagena. And this is an excellent little hotel in the centre. In one of the old colonial era houses with small but ample bedrooms, well priced (£60) and a minimal but sufficient breakfast. If you want sophistication and 5* facilities look else where. If you want old time romantics, in the centre of the old town where you can want the lovely streets day or night, choose this. Great staff too.

This hotel is a nice hotel in a great location, however there is nothing fancy about this hotel. The staff was very friendly and the rooms were comfortable. My room overlooked Plaza de los Coches and the beautiful clock tower as well as the sea off in the distance. The plaza can be noisy, but it personally didn't bother me (I live in NYC). But, if noise does bother you, chose accordingly.

They had a really nice roof top deck with nice seating arrangements (couches, chairs, tables), but strangely enough, I hardly ever saw anyone up there. Breakfast was included and was nice. Like the hotel, the food was nothing special, but nice.
