“Hidden Treasure”
Reviewed August 25, 2012

This lovely little bed and breakfast was our home from home for the week leading up to our sons wedding in Cartagena Cathedral. The owner Marcus was very helpful and attentive, he suggested lots of great places to eat, we all particularly liked "El Boliche" which was a very short walk away. Manuela and the rest of ladies who looked after us were delightful, nothing was too much trouble. The rooms were all individual in their decor and felt "artsy" and a little bohemian, exactly to our taste.
Les Lezards is situated in the district of Getsemani, a very short walk to the walled part of the old city. We always walked there and always felt very safe.
The Colombian people in general and the locals in particular we found to be friendly and warm and always keen to engage you and practice their English.
We came away feeling we had spent a week in a very special place, I would recommend this place to anyone seeking a more authentic experience than that afforded in the usual modern hotel,. We LOVED it!

This beautiful B&B was a calm oasis in the Getsemani neighbourhood. It was a safe location day and night, and we walked to the old town in 10 minutes for dinner, drinks or just strolling. We never felt like we had to take a taxi due to safety issues in Cartagena.

The B&B has very private rooms and a communal outdoor courtyard with lush vegetation. It also has lots of little surprises, like a beautiful burmese cat, and two turtles. If it's available (and you're able bodied), make sure to get the tiny gem of a room called the "Santorini" room, it was our favorite. You climb a ladder to enter it and it has a private terrace, romantic bed surrounded by arched walls, open air shower, and is just like being in a little Parisian apartment in the tree tops. It's secluded and very romantic.

Our host, Marcus, was very laid back and attentive to our needs. He gave us excellent restaurant recommendations and even arranged for a private tutor for daily spanish lessons in the B&B courtyard. Staying at Les Lezards is a must when visiting Cartagena - it's not a typical B&B where it feels like you're staying in someone's house. It is very professional, private, quiet and excellent value.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
A beautiful and romantic colonial guesthouse in Cartagena de Indias, in the vibrant and traditional Getsemani area, one of the last truly exotic places in the Caribbean, the most dynamic downtown location where new boutique hotels, bars and restaurants sprawl. Positioned in a quiet street, away from traffic and commercial activities, and just a few feet away from the Arsenal and the booming Calle del Guerrero and Media Luna night spots and at walking distance from all the best restaurants and attractions. The house designed by award winning architect blends colonial with mediterranean style and is decorated with items and maps collected during worldwide journeys. All rooms are custom designed. The cotto floors with spanish ceramic accents help you cool down and unwind surrounded by an abundant tropical vegetation with adult mango and palm trees. Guests can relax in the patios and enjoy an open air tile jacuzzi on the terrace and a mirador/solarium with views on the Cathedral, the churches of San Pedro and La Trinidad and the Castillo San Felipe. The house is on a north-south axis and enjoys plenty of natural ventilation ... more   less
