“Staying twice at Casa Nativa”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 28, 2013

The Casa Nativa Hostal is a very small hostal consisting only of 2 8-bed dorms. Beds are ok and there is airco in the dorms, which you'll like to havein Cartagena! The dorms are a bit cramped and lockers are uneasy to use though. The kitchen and bathrooms were not that clean during our first stay here. When we came back from Palomino to have our second stay at the hostal (which we had booked in advance) they simply told us the hostal was full "because so many peoplehad arrived on that day to ask for a bed that they had give it away"... So, one could say that the staff is not the best you'll find around Colombia... Altogether this was one of our worst hostal experiences in whole South-America

The hostel is in a great, safe location a block from the Plaza San Diego. The dorm rooms were very clean and the curtains for each bunk was a huge plus. The curtains provided privacy, plus allowed me to use my headlamp, without worrying about the light being bothersome to others. The built in locker in each bunk was nice, so that all my stuff was in one place. The showers and the bathroom were clean for the most part and were well stocked with soap and TP. The people at the hostel were very kind and had some nice conversations with other guests. Would definetly stay there again!!

Was very pleased to have such a wonderful stay at Casa Notiva Hostel. The owner was extremely friendly and we felt very safe and comfortable over our three nights here. Rooms were quite small however plenty of room for your gear as there were lockers above each head rest. The beds all had curtains for privacy also which was nice. Air con was greeted every night also :-) We especially liked this place as the common area/kitchen was further away from the rooms and any loud noises or music did not reach the room. Kitchen was little but clean (if you have the right hostel friends cleaning up after themselves) and we cooked dinner most nights. Overall this place was a little gem and would recommend staying here!

This small hostel Provider a comforable, well built, Not moving bed with your own courtin. I could sleep in eventhough the rest of the roommates had to leave early. The staff is friendly and the loundry cheap. The kitchen could be better equipped. Really enjoyed my stay! Thanks a lot!!!

This hostel has some good points: it's inside the walled city but in a less-touristed, more budget-friendly area; the beds are comfortable and the rooms are kept at a good temperature at night for sleeping. However, something happened during my stay that I consider to be unacceptable. The hostel doesn't have a lockout policy and doesn't state that the reception desk is closed at any time. I came back to the hostel at 3 a.m. to find the door locked and another woman also looking to get in. There was a small post it note folded into the latch on the door saying that someone would be back at 4 a.m. The other woman tried calling the number on the business card but there was no answer. We were waiting on the empty street until the employee came back. By that time there were four of us waiting to get in. He offered no apology, just stated that he worked 24 hours. When it was time to check out I asked if he was going to offer any kind of compensation. He said no, that was the price. I asked again and he said he would take 10 percent off "because I had to wait an hour." I tried to explain to him that waiting an hour on an empty street early in the morning in a less policed area of Cartagena is not a good experience for women. I asked him to consider what
He would think if it were his mother or his sister in the same situation. He said he had no mother and proceeded with a barrage of rude comments. I was shocked at this man's lack of concern for the safety of his guests. It's a shame. This place could be a great place to stay. Employees need to realize that we are human beings, not dollar bills with feet.

After runing from Media Luna I was super happy to find Casa Nativa! Nicest people working in this hostel. Feels really like home. I have no words to say thank youto you guys! Very nice rooms, super nice staff! Everything was great apart bathrooms - would be great if more clean and more privacy. But all over I had great time there and met nice travelers !

Look they have the makings of a decent place, but it seems to just be stagnating. I actually checked in and than promptly left and this is someone who has stayed at probably around 60 hostels+ worldwide. It's hot, poorly set up and the common space is really bad. The bathroom was filthy and the whole place could use just a lot of elbow grease. Does it have potential? Sure- just get with the picture guys.
