The pool is fantastic, the breakfast is awesome and always very well served, the hotel is good but it looks old, and smells old i felt it at my room, specially the pillows, I guess it needs some renovations, but i would go again!

It is one of the best hotels for families with children in Cartagena. The best in Las Americas is the kid's entertaiments. The hotel is expensive compared to similar ones in other cities. Besides the beach is quite pulleted. There is a good shuttle service to go to downtown.

Room Tip: First level near the shore.

Stayed at the hotel for an event. The hotel has a rather odd design especially the corridors and is showing signs of age and seems to be in need of some renovations. the rates were not too low i suspect because of the big event in town. Breakfast was always very well served and plentiful and oh the coffee, if i could choose one thing to rave about in Colombia it would be the coffee, oh and the downtown architecture in the old walled city, outstanding. We spent a lot of time next door in the brand new part of the resort which is very fancy but oh the service was pretty lousy. We were turned away for dinner while all the buffet items were still there, they could so easily have accommodated us. the waiters on the pool side dropped and smashed a lot of china on the floor one time right behind us and no one even apologised. The food was ok but always the same dishes. The in house coffee shop was again outstanding, the young lady served us even before they were open. On the last night there were large beach parties everywhere until very late into the morning making sleep tough. The rooms were ok if a little basic and as already mentioned in need of refurbishment. The conference venue attached to the hotel on the opposite side of the room was functional. If you are a bigger person then make sure the hotel arranges a taxi for you the typical taxi is the size of a shoebox the smallest taxis i have seen anywhere. Be careful of the notes, i was about to give what i thought was 50 local dollars as a tip when i found out it was 50,000 !!! Get used to it with front desk before you start to use it. There was an ATM machine in the lobby which was useful. The old walled city is so charming and wonderful. Hopefully they will spend some money on the old towers before too long or i fear some complaints along the way at the prices they charge. And for the record, I did not feel unsafe anywhere in the city during the stay.

Room Tip: spend the extra to stay in the other block that seems to have just been built

Good hotel, Clean, good food, good service, a bit expensive, but not outrageous.
Only bad thing, there were a couple of moths in the bathroom. but at the tropic I guess some bug are inevitable.
Right next to this part of the hotel there's a brand new tower that you can access, it's nice but Casa de Playa's got nicer character.
Perfect if you go with kids.

I stayed at Las Americas - Casa de Playa in Cartagena with my mother, my daughter and my niece. We enjoyed our stay very much. The hotel is beautiful! We loved the staff...everyone is friendly and very attentive. Excellent service and good variety of foods in the various restaurants and bars. The rooms are comfortable, a little small but clean and tastefully decorated. I loved having a hammock in the balcony! The breakfast buffet was good with great variety of foods to choose from. I also enjoyed the salsa dancing on the beach every day. The beaches are not as crowded as the other popular beaches in Cartagena and although there are some vendors on the beach, they don't drive you crazy trying to get you to buy stuff. I definitely recommend this hotel to anyone who wants to enjoy a great vacation. I plan to visit again soon!

We went here with my wife and children as a 6-day vacation, and we (especially the children) had a great time. The place is well-kept, staff are numerous and kind (AND extremely attentive), and our room was just in front of the beach. The hotel is definitely a nice place to be in.

Three caveats, though:
- The beaches in Cartagena are pretty filthy, and I was surprised by the fact that this hotel has a concession to maintain this beach (so I understand) but it's still filthy! This is not such a nice thing, especially when you're helping your son do a sand castle and after digging for two minutes you find all sorts of stuff buried there....

- The hotel is pretty pricy, and (as any hotel, I know) they charge for absolutely everything that is not part of your package very expensive. We ended up paying 300 USD additional after having paid almost 3 thousand USD for the package of "almost all included".

- The location is not necessarily the best (way up north), but they have a bus every two hours or so which takes you to the airport, Walled City and to the City proper. So I guess it's not that bad, plus taxis are anyway pretty cheap in Cartagena.

Room Tip: In the B2 building No 10 and 11 have the closest view of the beach (but they're also the most no...

We enjoyed a week at this hotel, which is directly on the beach about 10-15 minutes away from the historic center of Cartagena. It was a relaxing place for us and our 12yo son. This hotel is one of two on site (Torre del Mar is the other, newer one), which gave us additional options for pools and restaurants. This one is looking a little tired and worn, but is still pleasant and perfectly fine. My only complaint was that the floor in our room was always sandy -- I know it is hard to clean floors when guests are constantly coming in from the beach, but ... The breakfast is very good and the menu offers a wide variety of choices, although not very many healthy dishes. Excellent and friendly service. I appreciated the free shuttle into the historic center, which made it very easy to go out. My 12yo was too old for most of the kids' activities, but he had fun swimming in the pools and the ocean. This would be a good place for families with young children. We also liked that there were many Colombian families here, which gave us a chance to meet people from this lovely country.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the pool don't have any privacy. Most rooms have a nice balcony.
