I went to Cartagena to attend a meeting which organized at the convention center of this hotel. That's why I had to stay at Las Americas Resort. Torre del Mar is a modern building. Cleanning service is good. The room is big and comfortable. Free wi-fi in the room is perfect. It would be better if they give complimentary water.

Room Tip: Take sea view on high floor for better view of the Caribbean

The hotel is well located and has a great beach front. The rooms are pretty good but for what you pay, I think you'd expect more. The breakfast is fine (not outstanding). We had dinner once in the restaurant and would recommend that you take a taxi into Cartagena as there are many nicer places to eat and drink there for a lot cheaper.

The best part about the hotel are the 5 swimming pools, including a rooftop adults only pool. There are another 4 pools at the adjoining property that you can use as well. Maybe we were very lucky, but occupancy was around 20% during our stay, so we virtually had the rooftop pool to ourselves!!!

All in all, a good place to relax and do nothing but lounge around the pool, but otherwise, pretty average.

We got to the hotel around 11:30 and got our room around 1-1/2 hours later after one of the guys at the front desk was kind enough to rush other people to get our room ready. Otherwise, we would have waited for at least two hours, which we were told, is pretty standard in that hotel if you get there before 3pm.
The hotel is very much suited for families since the staff is incredibly helpful and are able to get children into different kinds of activities. However, if you are coupled, there is nothing terribly special about the hotel as not too many options are available for guests in terms of activities and things to do.
The rooms are nice enough but they are definitely not up to the standards of demanding international travelers who look closely into every detail. For example, it is obvious they did not pay attention to the finishing details in the bathroom, which looks absolutely clean but at times, unfinished with excess paint in certain corners and glass-doors that do not fully close, etc.
The bed was absolutely uncomfortable, the mattress was probably made out of foam and gave us horrible back pains towards the end of the night, so it was the major pitfall of our stay there.
In terms of the pools, there are four pools on the first floor which are interconnected to one another but unfortunately 3 out of 4 of them are too shallow - again, they seem mostly directed to children and not to adults. There is another pool on the 10th floor; children are not allowed in there and the bar is right next to it which is an additional advantage. Again, the staff is very, very polite and attentive so that was our spot of choice. Unfortunately, that pool was very shallow as well (around 1mt and 30cms deep).

Great things about the hotel were the breakfast, which had an enormous selection of food to choose from; the gym which is very beautiful, brand new and full of great machines; and the spa which offers great services - I recommend the water circuit.

We were slightly disappointed by the pools and the quality of the bed and that is the reason why we may try different hotels in the future. Also, for the price you pay to stay there, these two should be the least of our concerns. Otherwise it is a good option, particularly if you are traveling with children and/or if you are perfectly fine with spending some time under the sun in good, gorgeous, tropical weather.

While some people may prefer to stay at a hotel in the old, walled section of Cartagena, there were many advantages to staying on the beach at the Hotel Las Americas Torre del Mar. The staff was very friendly and helpful, though not everyone speaks English. The hotel has rooms on two sides; one faces the sea and the rooms on the other side face a large lagoon. Those facing the sea have a nicer view, but the one toward the lagoon wasn't shabby either. The rooms are large and well-equipped, and the bed was very comfortable. The pools are especially nice, with perhaps the best being the one on the roof. It's an infinity pool with one side that is parallel to the beach; there is also a very nice bar area there where you can eat as well. The views from the roof are wonderful.

The breakfast offerings are very ample at the buffet, and the food at the main restaurant was also very good. While there isn't much to walk to from the hotel, the peaceful setting and the beach more than made up for the fact that it was a ten minute taxi ride into the old part of Cartagena.

Room Tip: Get a room facing the sea, not the lagoon. It's worth it!

This hotel is nice but it is a little removed from the action. I thought it was going o be closer to the city center. There isn't anything to walk to from this hotel. Being this was my first time to Cartagena I would have preferred to stay in a hotel that was in the city center.

This hotel does have great pools and access to the beach. The staff are extremely helpful.

This is a great place for a family. But if you are single or traveling alone and looking to hang out, this isn't the hotel for you.
