this hotel during semana santa gave us a really good price as none were posted. but we did a LOT of footwork to find a good price during the highest season of the year....since the hostel we booked did not have enough room for the two of us during this time...not only that but the hostels ALL were around 120000 per pax....and it was 80,000 for two with air con and they let us use the hotels employee kitchen ACROSS THE STREET for cooking. even though there was virtually nothing to cook with except one fork, one cup one dull knife and a floppy spatula we were able to warm up leftovers. (lots of pots and pans) which is better than nothing. the coffee in the morning had no cream packets so you need to get your own milk. and they only have dixie cups and sparinly low on sugar...there is a nice fridge and lots of ice bags, located across the street, but again, i think they were honoring us with the capabiity and it is not meant to be a hostel so we were appreciative. the only thing that was bad about this place was there is a a girly nightclub that plays until 4 a.m. located directly below the hotel, and has techno music blasting. do not rent room #14. they staff again bent over backwards for us to give us room #1 which was by the entrance of the disco so we did not hear any music the 2nd and 3rd nights. i'm hittingm yself over the head to try to remember the name of the MOST freindly woman on earth who always greeted us with hugs and smiles and freindly spanish conversation ...it was a joy to feel so at home with her.

Room Tip: do not get #14 unless you like techno! and if you go downstairs be sure to just buy a drink...we ne...

That's a basic hotel with no breakfast (there're many good restaurants nearby) Very clean, staff is really friendly, helpfull for customers. Rooms are very little, A/C, TV, free wi-fi, good double bed, always clean. At the hall in front of the reception there are available Pcs to fast navigate on internet and fridges with good drinks. Don't expect nothing special, go there if you don't want to spend a lot. It's safe & quite hotel, on the first floor of a building; good for youngs, there where adults. Some room hasn't window. It's not an expencive place and it's in the city centre of Cartagena De Indias, really close to amusements: the best way to enjoy that wonderful city.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with window, if the room is on the Street it might be noisy in the early morning

It is a good location, with average rooms. It caters to Colombians and not over seas visitors. No English at reception desk. If you choose a room at the front you can open the tall wooden shutters and step out onto a small balcony.
For your money you get a double bed, ac, TV small shelf and bathroom.
The shower pours on to the floor and is not separated from the tiled floor space, so you have to step out and sit on the bed to finish drying. Not a good design.
Free use of computer in lobby, no coffee or tea in the morning.

Room Tip: Rooms at the front are noisy during the day but at least you can get some natural light.

I have stayed in many places that were listed on the cheaper end around the world but to be quite honest for the price, Hotel Porvenir is the worst so far. Pros, awesome location and air conditioning. Cons, not really the cleanest, no window in the room so it gets quite stuffy, receptionist did not speak any English which wasn't helpful in key questions that I had about Cartagena and any concerns I would have. For $45 USD a night without tax included, there may be better places out there.

Loud music kept us awake every single night of our stay until at least 5am, there was no toilet seat, the shower had no light and was just a hose coming out of the wall, the staff were obnoxious and even got us to pay in cash on the last night that we were there (whilst sitting in reception due to the noise in the rooms) a thought that we might abscond without payment due to the horrendous conditions. I've been around the world but this is the worst stay of my life and nearly brought our trip to a shuddering halt!

This hotel is a budget option in the centre of the historic centre. The location is excellent and air-conditioning is available in rooms which in my opinion is a must in Cartagena! Other pros were fast wifi and the free use of a printer and scanner.
Downsides - no window in our bedroom, staff weren't overly helpful and on one day we asked them to clean our room (which they had offered the previous day but we declined) - we returned 7 hours later the room hadn't been cleaned.
Based on the location, price and presence of air-conditioning I would recommend this hotel, but just don't expect anything fancy.

Good address for (relatively) cheap accomodation in the old city of Cartagena. This is basically a backpacker place, so don't expect much more than a simple room with basic bathroom and A/C (if you opted for it), BUT this is a very clean place, which cannot always be taken for granted in this hotel category.
Pros: great location, friendly staff, cleanliness and free wifi.
Cons: lack of light in the rooms and somewhat hard bed.

Room Tip: You might be available to negociate the price of the room a little, depending on the period and your...
