The staff here is beyond welcoming and always at your service. They completely went out of their way to make our vacation extra special and memorable. I stayed here with my husband for 3 nights to celebrate his birthday. I mentioned it to Henry & Kevin in reception and they organized with Ana (the manager of operations) a wonderful surprise in our room while we were out. We walked in and found balloons, a birthday banner, confetti, and a birthday cake!!! We also had massages in their spa with Maria Jose & Maria Paz who were absolutely excellent! This boutique hotel is very comfortable, beautifully decorated, and within walking distance to the Old Wall city. I would recommend this place to anyone who is visiting Cartagena!

Very pleasant boutique hotel, friendly staff, from check in (we got an upgrade to a 2 levels suite with a nice upstairs bedroom in the loft) to check out. Clean room, with a nice balcony on the access street, good breakfast. Well positioned in a lively and picturesque street in Getsemani, five minutes walk from the main gate to the walled city and very near the Convention Center (we were there for a congress).
We did not try the spa and massage but the rooftop pool is nice. I would certainly go back and recommend it.

Clean rooms, friendly staff and a nice atmosphere. It also has a wonderful roof garden with a shallow lounging pool – perfect for relaxing in after a day of sightseeing. It's on a
busy street but you wouldn't know it once you step inside the hotel as it is so quiet and tranquil (we did, however, have very tiny windows in our room – which on one side was a bit of a downside – but on the plus side probably helped with the tranquility!)

We stumbled upon this lovely boutique hotel whilst walking around Getsemani. After getting off the boat from Panama we needed a treat.

The hotel has a roof top pool with sun loungers and lots of seating areas, a jacuzzi, sauna and spa. There is another pool in the main lobby also. Breakfast is included as is free bike rental. Rainforest showers, air-conditioning, lovely toiletries provided, bathrobes, slippers and wifi.

The beds are super comfy. The room has both a fan and an air conditioning unit so you can choose how cool you need to be.

Hot showers also which is not common in Cartagena we are told.

There are only 4 bikes so reserve them the night before if you want all four or are shorter on time, not the best quality but its free rather an $6 to rent one round the corner.

Breakfast is good. You get tea or coffee, a fruit plate and then can choose an omelette, fried eggs, scrambled or pancakes. Also a juice included. I think we had pineapple and watermelon on each day.

Overall really pleasant stay and an excellent nights sleep. Very quiet. Near lots of the backpacker haunts so good if you are flash packing like we were. We heard the spa massages were good but didn't have time.

Reading the review below I think it's a little unfair. It isn't 5* and doesn't claim to be but if you are easy going its a good spot. I would stay again and would recommend.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on level 2 and at the back. Nice and quiet.

The main difference between a five-star and a boutique hotel is the exclusiveness, the fact that one is expected and unique and is going to have their most wishes taken care of, in a classy and refined atmosphere - that's why boutique hotels are more expensive and one not only expects but above all counts on the high amount paid being returned in full in those elements of exclusiveness! I'm afraid that wasn't always the case at Casa Canabal!
Don't get uptight by the sight of the street where the hotel is located: it's safe and lively, no fear!
The colonial house is an attaraction on its own and the door reveals unique talent and class of the owner in changing the venue into a hotel! The indoor pool welcomes you in the room, but the top floor and the pool up there are perfect to doze out; up there one can also enjoy a sauna and a jacuzzi at no extra cost!
Booking.com and the hotel do not share the same terminology for the kinds of rooms, so we were actually put in one lower than what we had actually booked! It all turned out well at check-out with the charges, but I believe both parts must talk and unify the terminilogy, to avoid conflicts with guests!
Rooms are really small and only suitable for a single person, a couple or two very close friends who wouldn't mind having to share a bed together! We were allowed a very early check-in and a very late check-out at no extra cost, a clear sign of flexibility!
The room, however, was failthy, with dust all round! Also, it was never explained that one of the switches is actually the mains to the room, which left all appliances uncharged when nobody was in! Windows open to the corridor, which means there is constant light outside and no blackout curtian is provided in the room - being that so, it would have been sweet to provide sleeping masks as part of the amenities' set!
Internet is reliable and fast, amenities are of good taste, wardrome is spacious and the safe is modern. The plugs are located in bad areas, one always needs to kneel down and bend over to plug something.
Guests choose to pay more in boutique hotels and count on being pampered, which means the smallest things tend to mean a lot, as they show deeper care and attention than in a five-start hotel, for example!
Not offering a complimentary bottle of water upon arrival is thrifty! Offering a coffe machine in the room and charging for coffee is an insult, bearing in mind that Colombia has the best coffe in the world! I mean, without altering the fares, the hotel could make us feel special, waited, cared for by such small gestures and others!
The buns put in the room every afternoon indicate already a tendency to show special attention. What I fail to understand is why, in a tropical country with lots of juice fruit foreigners crave for, we are offered marraschino cherry buns, nothing more artifical!!!
The hotel does offer a bike at no cost to cycle around the city; Cartagena being a flat place, this is a huge plus!
In 15 minutes one gets to and from the airport by taxi, which should cost no more than 12,000 Colombian pesos! One can walk to the old town and enjoy sightseeing in it; avoid Bocagrande, just do it by bike and you'll realise why choosing to stay there would have been a bad idea!
All in all, it's a wonderful choide for Cartagena, but management must urgently work on elements to make guests special, waited for, more exclusive - they chose to pay some more for that in the end, didn't they??

Room Tip: Avoid rooms 101 and 102: close to reception and noisy!

Two friends and myself stayed for 3 days at the Casa Canabal hotel this past week. The staff could not have been nicer or more accommodating. If you called for something, it was at your room within minutes. They were very attentive and helped us book our day trips. Henry, at the front desk, was great and spoke English really well, which was very helpful in planning our days. There are 2 small pools, one on the first floor and one on the roof. The roof also has a spa (okay massages, not the best and the lady was late) and lots of seating to have a drink etc. The room was perfect for 3 people, one queen bed and one double. It's located in a really fun area with lots of hostels filled with young people from all over the world. Havana was down the block (but is only open Thursday-Sunday, so we weren't able to go). The hotel is less than 10 minutes walking to the old town with a nice park in between. I highly recommend staying here.

This hotel is another true find. Though in the middle of Getsemanì, not yet totally restored quarter of Cartagena, it is a beautiful restoration with large well designed rooms and bathrooms. As you enter, there is a courtyard pool surrounded by the green vines. The roof has another pool with a jacuzzi and a several sitting areas protected against the sun to read, have a drink, entertain or just relax with the beamed music. Breakfast of local options is served at tables. The area is safe, genuine and walking distance from the historical center. For lovers of Cuban music very close to Havana Club.
