This a friendly hotel in a great location. We had a large room upstairs which was bright and airy with TV and wifi. There was a lot of noise coming from the community hall next door all weekend but I don't think this is a normal occurrence - in fact, one of the rock bands playing was really quite good and I found myself tapping my foot along to it one afternoon.
Everywhere we go at the moment there is a resident dog and this hotel was no exception - the sweet little dog who hangs out in reception loves to have his tummy tickled

Room Tip: Rooms upstairs are good

Staff here is friendly. We loved the little dog who lived here. The location is excellent!

However, our rooms reeked of gas.... To the point of making me light headed. The maid told us it was just the laundry? Anyway, besides that, size of the room was okay. Like a lot of places, there was no hot water. There is AC which works well. It was hard to sleep because you can hear very thing, including a staff room tv.

My main concern was the black mold in several places in our room.

I have stayed at a ton of budget places and would not recommend this.

The location is great for the price. We walked to the walled city in less then 10 minutes. The hotel is next to a church and the road its on is a little dark. If you are open for an adventure this a a great place. If you would like a fancy hotel dont stay here. The ac is cold and wifi works great. We loved Lulu the dog. We only had cold wster but its so hot it didn't matter.

Room Tip: Ask for a room that has been recently renovated.

Our room was clean, the AC worked, we had warm water , Wi fi worked and the staff was pleasant, however, the room was very small and felt dump and dark and beside the sofa by the front desk there was no common area to sit down and relax. The location for site seeing was great but this hotel is on one of the worst streets in the neighbourhood. There are nicer options in the area for just a little bit more.

The reception is nice looking and gives à welcoming vibe. The reception staff was friendly, no complains about that. The room the gave us was the one closest to the reception. It was horrible! Avoid that! It was someone elses hair left on the toilet, and it just felted so unfresh. The other rooms did though look a little bit better.

I found this a charming little "hole in the wall" place. There was not much to it but what more do you really need than a bed, toilet and shower? The Air conditioning worked very good... we had to turn it off several time even. Wi fi worked great. Very pleasant and friendly staff.

We booked our first 2 nights here and were concerned because it was such a great price. What a wonderful surprise it was when we arrived and found a great little hotel. It had a very european feel. Small but immaculate and wonderful staff. We had wi-fi and A/C in the room and they even had a little dog to make it seem homey. We ended up coming back for 3 more nights at the end of our two week trip to Colombia. We checked out ALL the other hotels/hostels in the area and NONE even came close to La Magdalena. Best of all it's a quick walk to the Clock Tower, Old Town, Bocagrande, restaurants, markets and even a fantastic club (La Habana) yet La Magdalena itself is on a quiet small street. If you are going to Cartagena I would definitely recommend this wonderful little hotel.

Room Tip: Both rooms we stayed in had been recently renovated and both had wi-fi and TV and were CLEAN!!!!
