Description: Chef Daniel Castano of Bogota’s Emilia Romagna restaurant brings his authentic Italian coastal cuisine to VERA, a 50-seat restaurant and lounge set within The Tcherassi Hotel’s historic colonial mansion and interior lush garden. Indoors, the restored, original 250 year old stone wall stretches from the imported Australian floor up to the distinuished wood ceiling and beams made from rescued Colombian Guayacan and Ceiba. Modern mirrors adorn the backlit wall in a unique contrast that reflects the activity throughout the space and brings the outside in with vivid reflections of the lush garden waiting outside. Dress Code is casual elegant; men have to wear long trousers and collar shirt

“Way over-price Italian (so they say) bad food.”
Reviewed April 19, 2011

I've eaten better food for a fraction of the price on the sidewalk in NYC. You would think this woman would have a better chef in a hotel with her name on it. The bench seating is uncomfortable and not cozy. Go to La Vitrola or the Santa Clara

“Fabulous food in a perfect setting”
Reviewed January 30, 2011

If you are in Cartagena and looking for a true world class meal, this is a must. Every restaurant within the walled city is charming and neat...this adds class and more importantly great food into the mix. Wait staff could not have been more helpful and accommodating. Everything was prepared perfectly, from a variety of flavorful carpaccio's to some of the best pasta and risotto dishes I have had anywhere. This is a big-time, big-city restaurant in the heart of one of the more charming cities I have ever visited.

“Vera - is superb, amongst the most beautiful restaurants I have visited”
Reviewed October 6, 2010

We ate there twice on a recent visit, once with a large group the second time just my wife and I.

The food was good the first visit, (12 people) and excellent the second visit, a romantic evening for just two of us. The waiters on both occasion were polite, informative and not at all intrusive, but always available. The second night, we closed the restaurant down, and never felt pressured at all to leave.

The atmosphere is superb and worth the visit alone. It is an amazing modern interpretation to a historic colonial building, making wonderful use of the antique columns, and details, alongside modern fixture, mirrors, lighting and furniture. The use of the double courtyard as a modern pool and sitting area is absolutely perfect. The sounds of water are soothing, as are the sounds of small frogs hiding in the wall, within all the beautifully planted greenery covering it. This may be the most beautiful restaurant space I have visited and I live in NYC.

I liked the space, design and modern renovation of colonial architecture. This alone is worth the entry price. Combined with excellent service and very good food makes it a place not to miss during your stay in CTG.

“Excellent Service and Atmosphere”
Reviewed September 5, 2010

Vera is an Italian Restaurant located inside Silvia Tcherassi's Hotel and Spa (she is the most famous colombian designer). It is beautiful; very romantic. The service is excellent. Food is not the best I've eaten, but it's good. They have an OK wine list (compared to the lists in other restaurants, this one is good). The price is similar to the prices in the best restaurants in Cartagena. Definitely, if you're around town, you should go and try it. Oh! I forgot... Men have to wear pants, or at least jeans. Hope you like it!

“Italian fine dining.”
Reviewed February 12, 2010

Opened in September 2009 in the Tcherassi Hotel + Spa (www.tcherassihotels.com) is the Restaurante Vera, an Italian inspired restaurant with seating for 40 BY RESERVATION ONLY which is headed up by the locally acclaimed chef, Daniel Castaña.

The dining area in this colonial building reflects its colonial atmosphere but with updated, modern trimmings. Be aware that casual attire here does not include shorts, singlets or flip flops so you are best to check while you are making your reservation to establish acceptance of any questionable attire.

The menu includes a selection of carpaccios, antipastos, meat and cheese plates, salads and then the traditional pasta or first courses (25 to 43.000 pesos each, 2.000 pesos to US$ at the time of writing) and protein or second courses (29-45.000 pesos).

Their wine selection tends to be on the pricier side but they also offer a few more economical offerings as well, we opted to share with a bottle of white, 'Benjamin' for 49.000 pesos. The local beer, Club Colombia was 6.000 pesos. A very tasty bowl of foccacia cubes complete with olive oil and balsamic vinegar came to the table complimentary, with the drinks.

We tried spinach salad (22.000) the Carciofi antipasto (17.000) both of which were tasty and professionally prepared and presented. In addition we had the mushroom risotto (31.000); the home made Amatrice Ravioli (31.000) and the Maiale pork (38.000). All of these dishes were of excellent quality and reflected a quality of Italian-style food seldom found in the city. The hands down favourite of the evening had to be the Maiale pork which is slowly cooked for over 24 hours before it is ready an is absolutely delicious. We had a side order of crispy potatoes “Contorni Patate” which was a tasty presentation of potatoes which we had never experienced before.

The service was informative and professional, and the bill is prepared with tax and tip included; they accept credit cards.

The best: the Maiali is a must try!
The worst: somewhat pricy interior only dining
