My sister and I spent 3 lovely days and nights in paradise. The hotel has 4 (four) rooms, tastefully and simply decorated. But we only slept in the room. The beauty of the hotel is that it simple, with hammocks on the deck, wooden floors, thatched roof and beach furniture! Only 20 steps from the beach we rested, swam, relaxed, had a fantastic massage and were treated by a staff of lovely and competent people who catered to us. The cook was world class, and the meals were simple but delicious.
We were there to recover, revive and that we did!! The hostess, Maria Fernanda Suarez, saw to our every need. I cannot say enough of how wonderful the experience was. She even arranged a car to take us into Cartagena for a day. Thanks for a refreshing retreat.

Based on the Trip Advisor reviews, I recently booked this hotel for 2 nights on a recent trip to Cartagena, wanting to add the beach experience to our trip. After a 20+ minute drive from town, we arrived in a desolate little village on the beach, whith Kohsamui Hotel de Mar sitting in the middle of it. The wind was blowing so hard (a regular occurence from what we were told), you felt like you were being sandblasted. The hotel itself is very rustic, consisting of a only 4 or 5 rooms, which have to be accessed through a very steep set of stairs. The rooms are simple, with only the basics, but are clean (not a small feat considering the sand blowing everywhere). The restaurant offers simple options, but is rather pricy - it is pretty much the only option there... By the way, don't expect coffee until 8:00AM at the earliest! The beach (there is no pool) consists of a little strip, right in front of the hotel, with no privacy from locals who park their vehicles (complete with very loud music) right next to you.... Activities there are limited to laying on the beach or relaxing on the veranda. We left after one night, puzzled by the "Winner, Trip Advisor 2013" plaques on the wall, and returned to the comfort and many options of Cartagena for our last night in Colombia.

Kohsamui hotel de mar is not advertised as a 5 star resort; our concept is unique and all pictures reflect that is a rustic, breezy and 4 rooms hotel; we do not see what is wrong with this. This client is disapointed against of more that 60 excellent experiences, we tried to make her stay perfect but we just can not accept that our room pillows (Not cheap at all) could be used as a chair on the beach sand. The beach is calm but public as all beaches in Colombia and the world. Our restaurant offers a very good variety of local flavors with reasonable prices if you compare to other restaurants in the old city. Always there is a hotel for each person type and obviously this client took a bad decision.

My boyfriend and I spent about 4 days at this lovely hotel. We felt at home the moment we arrived. Everyone especially the owners were great and very friendly. I am a vegetarian and while the menu does not have any veggie options, they were able to easily accommodate me. The owners (Maria and Efrain) were lovely and very engaging. They helped us out tremendously. Come here if you want relaxation.

We are from NYC so we couldn't sit still for too long. The hotel offers many tours. We took the Mangrove and Mud Volcano tours. We absolutely love the experience.

Safety...while the surrounding town looks a bit rural, we had no problems with safety. They do have safe's in their room.

All rooms share a beautiful terrace overlooking the sea... Fantastic...we can't wait to come back again!

Room Tip: Pay extra for a suite on second or 3rd floor. I saw the smaller rooms which were totally fine but i...

This hotel is a good place if you want to avoid all Cartagena tourists, but it will get very expensive if you plan to go to the city. One-way cab ride to the city is 30,000/40,000 COP and takes about 20 minutes. There are no food options around the hotel, so you will most likely go to the city every day. Other than that, the hotel is very quiet, owners are very friendly and the area looks safe. On the other hand, for the price ($100+ per room), the rooms are quite small for the price (especially suites), breakfast is very basic and showers do not have hot water. For the same price, you can get amazing AirBnB apartments directly in Cartagena.

Me and my friend spend a week in this superb boutique hotel, we felt at home the moment we arrived..Lovely service , great food and good value too particularly for a touristy place.
Located in a small friendly village where the natives live, close to the airport and the city.
All rooms share a beautiful terrace overlooking the Caribbean sea... Fantastic... can't wait to come back again!

Kohsamui is a great and quiet place away from the busy city life of Cartagena.
It's simple and complete, perfect for reading, relaxing, taking long walks on the beach, or sunbathing without hassles.

The ownner is a very helpful and kind person who does not go out of her way to personally assist with anything you need. In our case, the taxi they ordered did not show up in time, and without hessitation drove us to the airport so we would make out flight. The other employees, and especially the guy, were very helpful as well. Since there are only 4 rooms, it feels like being at a B&B.

The food tasted very good, however the menu was a bit limited - only seafood - and honsetly a bit pricey considering the location and what you get. The rooms are big enough, and the ones on the outside are recommended because they have more windows and thus more light.
Internet can be a bit flakey at times, and the signal is not that strong overall. We were very happy staying here for the 2 nights to wind down.

Room Tip: The ones on the outside are recommended because they have more windows and thus more light
