We were surprised that a hotel in this price range does not have hot water. Apparently the owner who lives in Italy does not feel it is necessary in Cartagena`s tropical climate. But enough hot water to make a body temperature shower possible would significantly improve our opinion of this hotel. We did not feel we received good value for the price we paid (182,000 cop per night).

My wife and I stayed at this hotel for 3 nights in early April 2011 and highly recommend it to other travellers. We had a double bed and a twin, a/c (required!), clean tiled floors, large safe, closet, and a simple but clean bathroom. There was also cable TV with CNN. No hot water but water is lukewarm and refreshing. Very nice lobby, small pool good for a quick refresh. Very quiet inside, peaceful. Wifi available in lobby area. Only drawback is that there was no maid service during our stay - one towel each, no emptying garbage, no toilet paper replenishment - not a big deal, the staff is very friendly and will respond to your needs if you ask them. Breakfast was included and was very good. We paid 150,000 COP per night, so this is a mid-range hotel. It's about an easy 15 min walk to the Old City, and 10 min to the restaurant area of Getsemani (Indian restaurant on Calle San Andres is delicious!). There is a lovely square 5 min away where you can sit and watch the local night life - kids playing soccer, etc. This hotel is in an area where the local live, gives great insight into their living conditions. We found it to be a safe area but were never out past 9 pm. We also did the Mud Volcano tour which was very well organized and definitely worth the money (40,000 COP each arranged through the Casa Vienna hostel on Calle San Andres).

We ended up here running away from an awful hotel in Cartagena centro. We had an amazing stay! Very clean and cozy place, with great staff and amazing service. The breakfast is included in the price (35USD Jan 2011) and is delicious and well served! Dona Marta was a great manager, very nice and wishing to help. Totally coming back here! The only bad bit is the pool, is small and doesnt get any sun during the day :(

This hotel is located between the Old City and the Marina. My father sailed his boat to the Club Nautico Marina so it was the perfect location for me. Tourists often stay in the Boca Grande area and they miss out on the cobblestone streets and quaint charm of this older part of the city. The walled in old city is just minutes away. Walk across the bridge and you're in the marina. The manager, Martha Estrada, speaks very little English but it made no difference. She made sure I was well taken care of. This was my third visit, once with a large group of friends. I have always felt safe here and would recommend it for couples and families.

Our stay here was not planned as another hotel in Getsemani had lost our reservation (and had also been unhelpful about it). When we arrived at Casa de las Palmas we had no idea what to expect and we were really pleasantly surprised. The buildings are lovely. They have been refurbished to a high standard and the furniture and air conditioning etc. are all very good. Our room wasn't enormous but it was just "a nice place to be". The small pool in the courtyard was charming and the staff were discreet and helpful. Breakfast was really good. We had dinner in the hotel one night too and the restaurant is worth a try if you don't feel like heading out into Cartagena; the chef made very good food, the service was charming, and the atmosphere was good. In the end we stayed for 2 extra nights we liked it here so much. Definitely give this hotel a try if you are looking to stay in Getsemani.
