“Great seafood”
Reviewed November 7, 2012

Very well impressed with this character restaurant by the beach, across the street from Hotel Caribe.

Service is adequate, food is delicious. Don't miss the arroz con coco (coconut rice) and the "lulo" juice.

Only nuisance are the people that come trying to sell everything - from shell necklaces to sunglasses, from fake Colombia soccer shirts to foot massages! The restaurant staff should do something about it.

“Great food, service and beach location!”
Reviewed September 23, 2012

Right on the beach in Bocagrande by Hollywood Beach. Bony, the owner, actually waited on us. We stopped in around 2pm for lunch and all the tables were full. He had his staff dig out more tables and chairs from storage and sat them up for us. We shared a fish dinner, the fish was lightly fried and served with coconut rice and fried plantains. We had a few beers too and it was delish and very inexpensive. While we were there, there were several groups of people that came and left because all the tables were full.

“On the beach, local cuisine.”
Reviewed June 24, 2012

Bony, a once great Colombian boxer has established his name on Cartagena’s food map. The place is right on the beach and provides a great option to try local dishes at a simple setting.

Don’t expect neither great service nor something fancy, just go to experience local lunch at is best.

Taste: Great
Presentation: Average.
Service: Average.
Value: Good.
Atmosphere and décor: Nothing fancy.

My recommendation: Fish soup, a cold beer and Red Snapper.

“Don't miss El Bony”
Reviewed April 7, 2012

We stayed a week at the Hotel Caribe and went to El Bony, which is right in front of the hotel, twice. The garlic shrimp (about $15 USD or $28,000 COP) is to die for. You just can't do it any better. They give you like 10 nice sized shrimp. The fried fish is also very good. Those 2 plus the seafood gumbos are probably your best bests. The place is a dump and it's hot inside so try and get a table outside. The atmosphere outside isn't much better but you can look at the beach and the ocean. LIke I said, the place is a dump but you're there for the garlic shrimp. I gave it a price of $$ as it's a bargain compared to the rest of the better restaurants.

“Beach shack, superb seafood”
Reviewed January 14, 2012

This small, rustic shack on the Bocagrande beach area of Cartagena serves deliciously fresh seafood. Founded by former boxer 'El Bony' (Bonifacio Avila), the restaurant has been going steady since 1976. You can tell how good the food is because of the queues outside waiting to go in. Friendly staff busily serve red snapper, mullet and other whole fish with coconut rice, patacones and salad; fish stews and octopus, as well as grilled chicken and steak (no French fries!). If you sit by the window, you can watch people enjoy the beach outside.
