Regatta is a time share establishment that rents units when not being used. The website is misleading about this and pictures of the hotel are extremely misleading about the type of hotel it is and quality. It is a total farce - essentially an broken down local yocal dump. I recommend the Hilton in Laguito, just down the road. Youll get 5 star service at the same price that Hotel Regatta is ripping you off for. Another great option is Hotel Urban Royal, right inside the city walls (same price and truly the caliber hotel you think you are getting from Regatta). Regatta is next to a high-rise construction site - noisy 24 hours and weekends. On my first night the wind swept against the netting on the building site next door that keeps debris from falling to the ground; all night I heard the debris banging in the nets against the walls of the building only 40 feet away from my bed. I stayed 8 days and there was NOT a single towel available at either of the pools, as guests hoard them in their rooms (trashy and classless - I will leave it at that). On 2 days, the pools were closed for maintenance all day. The new building next door is a mall that looks right into the pools from only 40 feet- no privacy and the new building obstructs the sun from the pools. Room doors use batteries and on 3 occasions I was locked out of the room because the batteries died. They eventually replaced the entire door mechanism, but not after I was woken up at 2:30AM by a loud low battery alarm chirping on the door every 10 seconds. Staff is unfriendly to non-Latinos (I am white, but fluent in Spanish) and they assume non-Latinos do not speak their language. There was only 1 staff member who spoke English, and it was barely understandable. When I complained in both languages they just shrugged; never once an apology for all the inconveniences. Also NO GUESTS ALLOWED in rooms. Oh there is more, but please just DO NOT STAY HERE.

Room Tip: Construction site next to this building, noisy all day and night - including weekends. DO NOT STAY HERE AT ALL.

Located in front of the beach, with hotels and bars everywhere. Hot breakfast available and restaurant in hotel. Ramon the guy at the hotel that offers the tours is excellent and knows so much about the city. Would come back.

I came to Cartegena to take a short break from a hectic work schedule in Bogota. Visiting from Canada. This morning at breakfast, a woman jabbed me with her elbow and yelled something in Spanish. I think she may have been concerned that she wouldn't get to the last arepa left in the buffet (I'm sure they would have been bringing more). After she jabbed me, I told her she was rude and nudged her to explain that that wasn't a nice thing to do. Her response was to go call her son who came over and assaulted me in front of the entire dining room. He pushed me and hit me in the face. When I asked security to come and do something, the security guard was terrified of coming into the dining room (even though he appeared to have a pistol - maybe it was fake). When I asked to speak to the police, the hotel staff just told me they wanted peace. Nice hotel! They don't care about guests assaulting other guests.

Shame on you Hotel Regatta! Your hotel isn't in the jungle, it's in a city.

I bought a long weekend for my parents on november 2012 based on the good reviews of the hotel, however the experience was not what I or they have expected.

My parents arrived to the hotel on the afternoon of a regular friday and when they wanted to check in, the recepcionist told them the hotel was having trouble with the water and light supply (very unlikely) so they could not stay at the Regatta and will have to be moved to another hotel (cheaper and less rated).

My parents talked to the manager and he told them the same. They meet another couple who had been told the same and since the hotel was not giving them any solution, they went together to check the other hotel. Firstable it was more like a Hostel, less rated, with no pool and was located several blocks from the beach.

They went back to the Regatta and made a scene (with very good reasons) and finally they agreed to change them to a better hotel on the beach only for 2 nights.

After all this trouble, my parents agreed to change the booking to this second hotel for 2 nights, just to find out the Regatta was not having trouble with the water or light, they had JUST OVERBOOKED THE ROOMS BEACUSE THERE WAS A MEDICAL CONVENTION ON THE CITY THAT WEEKEND. That is why people on Regatta moved my parents to another hotel only for 2 nights (friday´s and saturday´s)

So, if you want to stay in this hotel, make sure there are no events on the city.
