“Meron in passion fruit sauce”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 17, 2013

We had the mero dish with peppermint leaves and passion fruit sauce, It was quite good, the fish was fresh, tender and cooked to the point, the sauce had a perfect balance of flavours, the place is nice and comfortable, the service is excellent. good location, there is a nice three across the street, that and the breeze makes the patio the best seating spots.

“Good food but service takes to long”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 10, 2013

Aftet reviewing Varadero in trip advisor we decided to give it a try. The restaurant is in a nice part of barranquilla and it has nice terrace .The service is friendly yet a bit incompetent. We order 3 main courses and two entrances , it took more than 30 min to get the entrances and they where descennt (patacones mixtos and ceviche de pescado). The main courses arrived a while later the food was fine ,tasty and sufficient.
We order dessert and they brought a diferent dessert still it was tasty enough.
Overall if you dont mind waiting long time for your meal the food wont dissapoint.
The mojitos where also OK, not the best ones but not as terrible as previous review.

“Unbelievably Bad”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 27, 2013

I think that I have been in most of the seafood restaurants along the Colombian coast from Panama to Venezuela but though I first came to Barranquilla in 1985, I have never been able to find much here. So I followed the advice of some of the reviewers and went to the Veradero. I speak quite good Spanish. I had two mojitos. The first one was all ice. I hate ice in drinks. The second one I asked for no ice and the bartender didn't have the brains to chill it with ice and then pour it cold into a glass. Then I had a shrimp ceviche which was a joke. I wanted a shrimp cocktail but the Veradero doesn't have one on the menu. It wasn't ceviche it was fresh shrimps in lime juice. I couldn't believe it. I looked at the menu. We are, after all, on the Caribbean coast, and it was nothing. In Panama they put a whole grilled fish on your plate. In Arboletes, people stop just for the shrimp cocktail.

There are 2 kinds of ceviche. The great one from Lima, served with a piece of corn and a piece of white cheese and served with a cold beer and the one from Central America, particularly in El Salvador where they mix it into an old fashioned US soda fountain dish. The best I had there was topped by a turtle egg poached in lime juice with the various spices. I couldn't believe reviewers talked me into this place. The steak restaurant, Chez Ernest, that's another story. That's fantastic. But the Veradero .... Oh Boy. I'm still looking and think you have to go outside Barranquilla.

“Best Cuba'n style restaurant ever visited!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 16, 2012

We were in late dinner in Varadero and it was a pleasant visit. Place interior and atmosphere is wonderful and staff is very friendly. Price vs. Quality is Ultimate.
Please remember also taste excellent Mojitos what they have here.
This is a world class restaurant which would be a great success if located example in Miami.

“Great Place !”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 13, 2012

Just visited Friday, October 12, 2012. Must say I was impressed. Food very good, with very "Cuban sized portions." Ambiance, excellent with life Cuban/Latin music. Patrons with wide range from 20's to seniors, but very middle-upper class crowd. Location in a very safe part of Barranquilla, easy access. Resevations recommended if you want to seat in area where life music is playing. Price, not bad at all. Pitcher of Sangria for $55,000 pesos serves about 5 glasses, can't beat it.
