“A European Hotel in Wenzhou”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 30, 2011

I chose this hotel based on the reviews on Tripadvisor and it certainly did not let me down. From the moment you walk into this hotel you would swear that you are in Europe, not China.

The beds are very comfortable, the rooms are equipped with decent size flat screened televisions, Bose wave radios, and a fully stocked mini-bar. I love coffee in the morning, and this is first hotel that I have stayed at where the mini-bar featured a french press for coffee as opposed to the ubiquitous nescafe freeze dried coffee that is a staple of Asian hotel rooms.

The room, and the bathroom were on the small side, not tiny, and comfortable nonetheless. There was a stand up shower with high water pressure, L'Occitane toiletries.

There is a bar downstairs open until 10 or 11 PM, and an on site buffet serving breakfast and dinner. I didn't get to eat dinner there, but managed to get breakfast, and it was high quality, with the typical selection of most Asian hotels, a mix of western and asian dishes, as well as an omelet bar.

My only gripe, and it is a small one, is that the hotel is on a fairly busy street, and does not have a place for a vehicle to pull in for drop off and pick up. Not a big deal, but at times challenging if you're bringing a lot of boxes or bags in and out.

Overall, the Ex Palm d'or Hotel is a great value in Wenzhou, and I will definitely stay there again the next time work brings me to town.

Booked two rooms in October for a total of 3 nights for my family and I.

Rooms: Small but has everything you need. Comfortable (soft) beds. Complimentary fruits & bottle waters. Flat screen television. Mini bar/refrigerator. Slippers. Complimentary Wi-Fi.

Restroom: Shower (no tub). L'Occitane products (shampoo, conditioner, lotion, body wash). Hair dryer. Complimentary: Toothbrush/toothpaste, nail filer, Q-tips, cotton balls, combs, shower caps.

Staff: Sufficient English. Kudos to a woman name Nemo, extremely helpful and polite during out stay.

Food: Lacks consistency. Out of the 3 meals we had, one of the meal was horrible. (Maybe the chef was having an off-day?) Provided both western and eastern style breakfast.

Taxi Advice: Have the bellboy hail a taxi for you when traveling to places. Even though we speak fluent Chinese, the taxi driver STILL raises the fare on us when we hail a taxi ride. When we had the bellboy do it, they negotiate the fare so that it's what the locals would pay.

Overall, it was a great stay. I would recommend this for business, couples, friends, or solo travelers. However this hotel is not very disabled or elderly friendly.

I've traveled to Wenzhou many times. This is my favorite hotel. It is not the most luxurious. Rooms are small. However, it has the most comfortable beds. These are hard to find in China where the norm is hard beds. The hotel is a nice size - not huge. The service is very good. The staff speak sufficient English and there are Filipino and European employees to complement the Chinese staff. Everyone is helpful.

They have a lounge / bar and restaurant. We ate breakfast in the restaurant each morning. The location is convenient. I have always been able to get a cab easily.

Room Tip: Ask for a room off the streets - otherwise you'll hear noise all night.

This hotel was just as described by most of the other reviews here. Good hotel, small rooms, good service and staff - porters couldn't have been more helpful. I did like the extras like the quality shampoo and sound system in the room. Overall very good value for money in a city where it seemed all the reasonable hotels seemed to be charging pretty high rates.

I absolutely love this hotel!!!! I’ve never written a review for anything before, but I stayed in this hotel for 4 months and the entire experience with the hotel was so perfect that I just had to do something about it.

The staff was friendly and incredibly accommodating. If you had any problems they would be there within a few minutes to come and fix things. They are all just genuinely nice people—some of them even brought me home-made gifts at the end of my 4 month stay.

Their ability to be so helpful was in part because most of them could speak English, which I found to be extremely rare in Wenzhou. The manager, Al, lived in the states for 7 years so his English was impeccable. If you have any problems you can talk to Al and he will bend over backward to make you happy!

The entire hotel was immaculate—it was clean and classy and filled with all the amenities you could want. The internet was free and always worked well. There was a large flat screen TV in the room with a good selection of English channels. The soaps and toiletries they provided were really nice too. In fact the bathrooms were, in my opinion, the nicest in all of China. And the brand new gym that they just set up was the nicest gym I’ve ever seen—touch screen TVs on each piece of equipment, and some of them had games so you could play solitaire while you rode the bike!

The breakfast was great; it had a lot of western options including an omelet station. The buffet dinner was amazing—sushi and crab and a chocolate fountain for dessert. They also had a pretty extensive room service menu with a lot of good options. The location of the hotel was also great-- you're just a block away from an Italian and an Indian restaurant.

They were so westernized that they put up Christmas decorations all over the hotel, and they even hosted a huge Christmas banquet. Unfortunately I missed this because I had already booked a flight to Thailand for the holidays, but Al showed me the pictures and it looked amazing.

Anyway I’m sure I’ve left things out, so if you have any questions feel free to send a message or something—I’m not really sure how this works on Trip Advisor. But the bottom line is: Stop looking around at hotels and do yourself a favor and stay at the ExPalm!!!
